Jericho specializes in sexual assault cases. He is currently defending a 60 year old physician (Dr. Saxena) who has been accused of raping a young girl over the period of many years.

Not sure that he does OP’s kind of case.

Sorry, Jezic not Jericho

I think in a news article back when it happened, you stated vodka was purchased at a store on River Road. Note that in MoCo, the only place vodka can be purchased is county liquor stores, so the only ones near River Road are at Westbard (next to the Giant) and at Potomac Village. Maybe that will be of some help to narrow things down.

I think you may want to get a lawyer to pressure MCPD. My dealings with MCPD have always been good, but they do have a new chief of our local (2D) station -- Falcinelli moved on. Falcinelli was great, but I don't know about the new guy. If I had to guess, I'd say the union pressured them to close ranks, though it's a good sign they did release body camera footage instead of hiding it.

If you want a hard-charging lawyer, the one who defended the Rockville HS rape suspects (forgot his name.. can look it up if you like.. starts with a J as I recall) or even the notorious lawyer and current County Exec candidate Robin Ficker may be good as they can deal with the press well.

If you want to take a lighter approach, ,contact Bethesda Magazine (Bethesda Beat) as this story is right up their alley, and they've had some slow news days lately so they'd be eager to write up more on this and that will definitely pressure MCPD.

Keep in mind that investigations do take time. You probably remember the crash on River Road that took teh life of a Whitman student and his parents last year. It took a FOIA request by the Washington Post to get the results of the accident investigation by CRU (collision reconstruction) -- they don't release it by default.

Talbots?
Or could it have been Tenley Mini Market?

Farhad, Nasrin,

Our kids were classmates since kindergarten. I have continued to think of Navid with each milestone this year, and my heart breaks for your entire family. I wish you could find the answers you need, but I’m afraid there may not be any answers. Nothing satisfying, anyway. I am so sorry.

With love,
A Neighbor

I am very sorry for your loss.
Reports last year stated that your son had 2 fake drivers licenses on him. That may indicate intent and opportunity to get access to alcohol on his own.

OP, I'm so sorry for your horrific loss. I hope someone is able to shed some clarity on what happened to your son.

Later that night they went to a house of one of Navid's friends whose younger sibling was having a party that was alcohol free. When it was discovered the older boys brought alcohol they were asked to leave.

I hope you find the answers you seek and I wish you and your family peace.

This is the story the host family is telling. I have not believed it and continue not to believe it.

What do you think happened?

If you think something else happened, you can pursue a civil matter, separate and apart from whatever the police do or do not do criminally. But remember, in a civil matter (or criminal actually) your son's actions would also be put under a microscope. While what happened is undoubtedly a tragedy, unless you believe he was forced to drink in excess against his will, he bears at least some responsibility for what occurred.

Talbert’s sells wine/beer (not even sure about wine) because it’s in MoCo (and Talbots only sells women’s clothing). The kid could have gone to DC of course. But in either case it sounds like he had a good fake ID so not sure what the store’s liability is. I guess OP can look into suing the county for selling to a kid with a fake ID.

Talberts is beer and wine. They don’t sell liquor.

Here's a link to underage drinking laws that includes links to the statutes that may be helpful to you. It looks like the seller may not be liable if they verified the ID and it was reasonable to assume it was a valid ID. It is an offense to possess a fake ID and to use it to purchase alcohol, but that seems to result in a citation.

I've been carded in the Westbard county store (and I don't look anywhere near 20s), they seem to card routinely, so I suspect they did check IDs. Whether they should have better means to recognize fakes is maybe another question.

The MoCo liquor stores (which are county-run.. no private sellers of liquor in MoCo by law) card heavily. No way they'd not card someone who looked high school age young. I get carded there (and at Talberts) and I'm 41.

I'm a new poster here and I am heartbroken for the loss of your child. I wish the other parents would encourage their kids to speak up and tell what all happened.

I read that they traced the vodka bottle to a store in PA.

I really hope you find some peace.

I am so, so very sorry for your loss. I have two teenagers, and I would certainly tell you if I knew or heard anything. This is a terrible tragedy and there were a lot of kids there if it was a party. As parents, we should all be looking out for each others kids. I know I have and I will continue. Sometimes kids open up to other adults, not Mom and Dad, but information should be shared.
OP - sending you my sincerest, warmest hugs and please continue to search for answers. A parent never gives up or stops loving their child.
