Please.... do you really think child molestors need this site to figure that out. I am sure the OP is just like the rest of us who bought homes before we had kids only to realize now that all of our neighbors are geriatrics (although very nice).

So funny. Thank you for writing that. Thank God I'm not the only one. I was kicking myself for not noticing that before we bought our house.

Yes, a molester who says "Close-in, please!" He has to ride Metro, obviously.

Thanks for the suggestions all. Our dd will be in k next year and we are searching for the holy grail of nabes!

No lie!! I live "way out" in Loudoun County (tons of kids, btw) but recently visited a good friend who lives in AU Park and loves it. But I was SHOCKED at how crowded Turtle Park was on a "normal" day. There are no playgrounds in Loudoun I have ever seen that crowded, and I feel like we have a ton of kids!

Woodmoor is packed with children, but unless your child attends St. Bernadette's, s/he is unlikely to make many friends there. Very clique-y neighborhood.

Really? I don't live there, but I am close to someone who does, and clique-y is the last impression I got - when I've visited, people are very friendly and there are always tons of kids around. But now that I think about it, my kids aren't yet school-aged, and neither are the kids that we've seen - maybe things change as the kids get into school?

Anyway, very interesting. Thank you for sharing this, as this is a neighborhood we've considered moving to, mainly for the family-friendliess.

I live there, and although my kids aren't school-aged yet, there are many on my block that are and do not attend St. B's and seem to have plenty neighborhood friends. I see them outside together all the time. This statement doesn't ring true to me at all, but maybe it's different on the pp's block.

Our experience was different. We really wanted to like it, and wanted it to be our "forever" neighborhood, but we found Woodmoor to be very clique-y, and as a working mom I found the neighborhood to be SAHM-friendly to a fault; people were very judgmental and unfriendly about working versus SAH.

Overall we really hated Woodmoor, and moved out 10 years ago to a different neighborhood in Silver Spring. SO much better, like night and day. Haven't looked back since!

Might I ask what neighborhood in SS you moved to? I'm looking to move to Silver Spring in the next few years, and I'm trying to get a sense of what neighborhoods people like. Woodmoor is on our list, but isn't quite what we're looking for.

I'm really sorry to hear you had such a bad experience in Woodmoor. The people who I know who live there now would be appalled at you being judged for working. (again, that's a grand total of 2 people I know well, but still)
