Have you ever walked out of an exercise class?

If it's a new class, try observing a few minutes and looking up videos online to get a sense of what you expect.

Experienced group exerciser here and I think this is a ridiculous thing to say. People should always, always prioritize their health and fitness over the feelings of the instructor. I don't know any professional group exercise instructors who wouldn't say the same thing.

Haha, I love this.

At those cycling classes like Zengo or Soul cycle, the music is deafening. It is absolutely unnecessary and potentially damaging to everyone's hearing. I hate it and want to leave every time. But I don't because you are just trapped there like a galley slave on a clip in bike.

Once when I was fairly new to yoga and on a tight budget,I used one of my precious class passes to go to a class that ended up being lying on the floor under a blanket. That was it. Nap time. Quiet music playing. About twenty minutes in the instructor told us we could roll on our side if we wanted to and twenty minutes after that to roll to the other side if we wanted. Most of the class slept through the whole thing. i got madder and madder that I had wasted a class doing absolutely nothing and left much less relaxed than I arrived.

Yes, because I was too sick to be there anyway.

If you think you might walk out, I would just tell the instructor up front that you are checking things out and unsure if it's a good match for your fitness level so you might leave. It's not about hurting the instructor's feelings. Pretty much every instructor I've had stops or sends an experienced student to go check on people who've walked out to make sure they aren't hurt/feeling sick/etc. I actually thought it was a liability thing, because I've never experienced an instructor ignoring someone who walked out.

Once an instructor I'd been going to for years sent someone after me when I rushed out to use the bathroom (didn't realize how much I needed to pee until I started jumping around). I was in the front row, and she was afraid she'd accidentally kicked me.

If it makes you feel even better-- I've never walked IN to a fitness class.

Once but it was only because I was sick. I literally puked after I shut the door to the classroom.

yes, hot yoga. Not for me!

Walked out of hot yoga, instructor barking at people to stay with it. I felt I'll from the heat but hated the atmosphere more.

I also walked out of a Barre type class with a poor instructor who was doing things that only tightened hip flexors.she had no clue so I left.

I did once when I was recovering from an ankle sprain, and the instructor announced that she was going to turn today's scheduled Body Pump class (which is mostly low-impact and can be easily modified to not involve jumping on my bum ankle) into an Insanity class (which is...not what you want to be doing on a bum ankle). Once my husband attended an outdoor bootcamp class with me that was too hard for him to finish, so he quietly slunk away.

Me too!

I’m still bitter about the 50 minutes I spent years ago on my first and last Pilates class. It’s just not my thing. Unfortunately a friend of a friend was the instructor so I didn’t feel comfortable ditching it.

That was a class? Literally you can nap anywhere, with no gear, skill or instruction and they had the nerve to call that a class?

This. I always set up for an easy inconspicuous exit when trying a new class.
