Yes, however segregation seems to have a more negative effect than smaller class size and schools. At least that's what's come out of most of the reports. Ideally there is some of both. Integration and smaller class sizes.

Lost f#cking cause. Let those middle class Families attend WS where they belong.

Smaller class sizes and smaller school sizes are not the same thing. The former may allow for more personal attention and instruction; the latter tends to lead to fewer course options, weak PTSAs, and extra-curricular programs that struggle to get off the ground.

FCPS has neglected Lee for many years, aided and abetted by weak school board members who don't stick up for the school. They should not be moving any kids out of West Springfield to Lee at the present time. Period.

I've posted before about Lee. FCPS and Fairfax County are addressing Lee HS by the renovation and revitalization of the mall. It's a long term plan.

SURPRISE. Just like Daventry. "We knew we were zoned for lee when we bought, but my child is too good for lee."

The county should be moving more middle class to Lee, not away.

Not sure how WS/Lee became a topic at the CIP hearing. As far as I am aware, there are no planned changes that will impact those two schools. When the renovation is complete at WS the capacity will be slightly expanded, but it is projected to be over the new capacity within a few years. Meanwhile, the enrollment at Lee continues to drop.

As for moving Rolling Valley, that would continue the trend of destroying Lee High School. First it was Hunt Valley, then it was Daventry, and now Rolling Valley. These schools had the lowest F/R lunch rates feeding Lee and were among the whitest. So yeah, the County is guilty of segregating Lee High School, both by race and income.

One thought. They are closing lee. Hayfield is under enrolled and with the Reno they can move the title I schools west of 95 to wear Springfield. The other feeders can go to Hatfield or Annandale which are both under enrolled. It’s genius and will save big bucks. The first step is to move the people who would complain in a way that would make them happy. Don’t expect the rest of this to be as transparent.

Apologies for the typos but writing on an iPhone. This actually makes everything make more sense.

Not all of Hunt valley went to Lee. Just the area across the parkway. I’m curious about this because hunt valley is pretty full and it seems like they would want to address that. But then it would probably involve newington forest and south county.

You do not know what you are talking about... and you keep talking about it. Do you live anywhere near Lee/Springfield/the mall? If you did, you would know that that area has nothing to do with "revitalizing" Lee. Nothing. The mall is fine. But, it ain't gonna improve Lee.

Yes, I do live in the area and yes, home prices have gone up.

Rezone those Rolling Valley kids to Saratoga Elementary. Then they will be completely in the Lee pyramid. All of those Rolling Valley kids that attend Key and Lee are near Rolling and the Parkway so they are close to Saratoga.

The Town Center nor the TSA will help Lee.

Take the TSA - many of the employees can move just a few miles down the road to WS, Hayfield, South County, Edison, etc. Or they will go to private or pupil place to another FCPS school if they choose to live within the Lee boundary. Simply put - people are avoiding Lee, particularly white families.

As for the Town Center, it is nice enough, but it really won't have any impact on the school. Any housing ever built on the Town Center property will be be in the form of condos or apartments, yielding fewer students and possibly more students from housing set aside for low income families.

Wow!!! Closing Lee. It makes sense since the other schools can absorb the kids but wow!

Don't get too excited. This is just conjecture by a random person posting on an anonymous forum.
