Honor roll is not a joke. Kids have to work hard to earn it. Even if majority of the students are in the honor roll -- that does not mean it is a joke!
The purpose of going to school is learning, not beauty contest or boxing match. Your kid does not have to top percentile to be a good learner ! |
| Yes it does. I work at a W middle. Everyone is getting As and a smattering is Bs maybe, and the parents are freaking out on their kids when they don’t get mostly As. Maybe not straight As but it’s certainly not hard to hit that threshold too. |
You're wrong. Getting As in MCPS is now too easy for it to have any sort of meaning. I am fully in support of grading much harder, so that colleges can distinguish between the wide range of abilities currently getting As. By harsher standards, my son would probably not have gotten the straight As he has earned in the past, but that's fine by me. It's a good lesson to learn - that you can do better! |
My son gets Cs, Bs and sometimes Ds, but rarely As. He works really hard and wants to finish high school. Now you want to make grading harder --- so push As to Bs, Bs to Cs, and Ds to Es, and so on, that will make my son impossible to graduate ! Perhaps, your son is too smart for MCPS regular schools and he should get into magnet program, if that is still too easy, then try private schools ? |
| It is different in every school. Some schools treat it specially and others make it no big deal. |
| My son's MS gives out ribbons and a bumper sticker for honor roll (and a different color ribbon for "distinguished honor roll" which is straight As). I think it's really nice! The kids feel proud. |
