Are there some MCPS middle schools that don't have an honor roll?. My 6th grader was excited about making the honor roll after the first quarter but he hasn't received or heard anything about it.
Thanks |
Does he have teachers? Does he have a principal? These are the people who would know the answer to a question pertinent to your school. |
NP - Wow, PP, you are NASTY. Our principal is useless and really unresponsive. Also, most schools are CLOSED this week. Our school's office is closed until after break. It's perfectly reasonable for OP to ask on here. Sorry, OP, not sure how to answer your question. |
| I’ll get around to asking I was just wondering if other middle schools had them. |
| What school are you at pp with the unresponsive principal? |
|
I believe they all have honor rolls but how they choose to celebrate them differs from school to school.
some just put the list up at school, some have a breakfast, some give a certificate, it truly varies. |
| At our middle school honor roll only requires a 3.0 with a Max of one C. 75% of the kids make it. No big deal. However if my child was excited about it I would make it a big deal at home somehow. |
.
Honor roll in MS??? That's a low bar in MCPS! |
| Honor Roll is automatically generated for all MS and HS students. What the schools do with it varies. Some have awards ceremonies, some pass out certificates, and some don't acknowledge it at all. If your school doesn't, get involved with the PTA and push for recognition. |

Haven’t heard anything about an honor roll at my dd’s school (Hoover). However, she is my oldest and in 6th grade so maybe it comes later?
Grading is so easy and they seem to really be easing the children in so I would assume most could make it on the honor roll. |
| MCPS MS teacher here. My school has a straight A breakfast that is a joke. They feed them school breakfast. They do receive a certificate but nothing too special. For students who get honor roll they do receive a car magnet during their PE class months after the quarter has ended. |
| Does it matter? Your kid for the same grades/gpa whether his name appears on a list or not. If he is happy with his grades & knows he did his best & you (& his other parent, if he has one) are happy with his grades & know he did his best, that's reason enough to celebrate & be proud of his hard work & acheivements. |
| Agree, in our MCPS MS (a W), honor roll is a joke. In 6th grade I told DC how proud I was for how hard he was working, and he told me everyone was on the honor roll. I called a few parents (who had older kids) and they confirmed, most kids in our MCPS middle school are on the honor roll. |
| Principals list is straight A's. That is only the top 25%. |

Honor Roll is a joke. Maybe 2/3 to 3/4 of students are on it at our middle school. You can get it if you have a mix of As and Bs, and can even get a C and still be above the threshold! Certificates are handed out with grade reports. At the end of year ceremony, honor roll students are asked to stand, which is why I SAW how many kids were on it
Since you heard nothing about it, your kid likely did not make the HR in the first quarter. Mid-January is the end of the second quarter - wait until then. |
