Would you go to Greece or California for winter break?

You are better off in California.

I've lived in California and been to Greece half a dozen times and while I'd go back to California in a heart beat, I'd rather never go to Greece again.

Why? What did you not like about Greece?

Haha. You've obviously never been there. Mostly, its a dump.

California is not a dump?

Both are nice OP. If your kids haven't been to Greece, go there. They may not be able to travel when they are adults, so that is why we took our kid everywhere in the world.

What are you even talking about? I love Greece and I would go back no question. The people were super friendly and the food is amazing. And I'm pretty sure their culture invented democracy....sooo..

Wow..spoken like an "ugly American". I'm guessing you've never been there. It is a wonder to go and see places that have existed for thousands of years. Guessing you voted for Fatty Orange?

The best time to go to Greece is in the late spring. It can be cold in the winter and not worth traveling all that way.

Greece in winter for a week sounds not fun. So Cal will at least be a bit warmer.

There is one meal you can eat in a greek restaurant. If you are happy having that same meal every day for a week, go ahead.

The roads are all busted up, the drivers are crazy, non-seatbelt wearing racers who don't stop for pedestrians.

And there is zero culture.

Ha ha ha yeah F the Parthenon! That old stuff isn't cultural at all! I was looking to go to the Mall and Olive Garden.

I loved Greece, but it does not seem like a winter destination. Unless maybe you want a winter ski vacation and go to the mountains like Delphi.

OP, we took our five year old and went to Greece for 10 days over Christmas in 2015. Granted, we are Greek and have family there, but we stayed on the mainland in hotels. We planned to go to an island but never made it. It was WONDERFUL. It was DD's first trip overseas and she was amazing, but she's not a high maintenance kid (laid back, eats anything, friendly personality, etc.)

We got lucky with the weather. It was in the 60s and sunny every single day. We never wore anything heavier than windbreakers. That is typically their rainy season. Even the Greeks kept telling us how unusual that weather is. The hotels are wonderful and the culture is fantastic. Don't listen to the others who are saying it's a dump. It may not be for everyone, but do the research. Greece is a wonderful place to visit. And the food?? God, I still dream about some of the food I had there. You will want to go back.

It is a long trip though and might be tough with three kids for just a week. Spring/summer is the best time to visit Greece. Depends on your budget, where you're staying and what you want to do. If you want to ski, Greece is a terrific winter destination.

I'm sorry but flying all the way to Greece for only a week - especially if you want to get off the mainland - is ridiculous. You eat up a day on both ends for travelling, plus more to get to islands.

Isn't california a dump now?
