| OP here, I do not want to face fraud charges. I've seen a WaPo article in which two families were prosecuted for residency charges and "stealing an education in DCPS". I am sure that MCPS would not hesitate to charge for charges, especially when the school district is more together than DCPS. |
| Just move. If you can't afford a SFH in the zone you want, rent an apartment for a few years. |

Wilson pulls from too many areas of the city for me, additionally, many Wilson families do not provide the same home structure as the W schools. Many W school families get tutors and actively seek to support their children at home. I would rather deal with the over wealthy and semi-drug culture than deal with guns being on campus (as Wilson has dealt with over the past year).
W schools also have a history of continuity versus DCPS with their administration and its faculty. Continuity is important when dealing with education, it means that admin and teachers aren't building a plane while flying it mid-air. |
Even ignoring the dishonesty of this, it is just not true that MoCo isn’t on the lookout for people who don’t belong. I know of a very sad case where a high school student was determined not to have appropriate documentation of residency. She was met at the entrance of the school by the in-house cop and denied entrance. It was extremely traumatic for the child. |
+1 I'd rather live in DC too (closer to my office), but there's a reason people start flocking to MoCo in the elementary school years and beyond. |
Do you read the news? Here's a MD couple who got fined half a million dollars for sending their kids to DC schools. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/md-family-that-sent-kids-to-dc-public-schools-must-pay-more-than-500000-fine/2016/07/28/b7f3656c-54eb-11e6-b7de-dfe509430c39_story.html?utm_term=.0072068067b0 |
This. MCPS does not have the resources to go after this. We know of several families that have done this over the years without any consequences. It’s not a big issue. |
That is DC schools! It is well known that MCPS does not go after this. |
| I also vote for renting for a few years and moving while your kid in in HS. My child is at Murch now and going to Deal in a few years, but he will not be going to Wilson. I'm renting now so it's not a huge issue when we have to move for HS. |
There is a fraud hotline. http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/fraudhotline/ And if you think the Type A parents at already overcrowded W schools aren't going to report someone who is obviously living in Tenleytown, you're mistaken. |
+100 If I know that someone is committing residency fraud, I am reporting it. |
It's ok to commit fraud, if the odds are that nobody will catch you? |
| I'll turn you in. Repeatedly. |
Incorrect, it's absolutely a major issue when kids are in trailer classrooms and not fitting in lunch hour at lunch time. Plus the budgeting gets off. and the projection models even more so. |
You can report it all you want, but it is incredibly difficult to prove where people live. The people who I know that do this have their utility bills sent to an in boundary address. But they live out of boundary. There is NO WAY MCPS can prove this. Impossible. |
