Tuition to W school? Is it possible?

Not anymore. It's ridiculously expensive, I can't even afford to live in my own house anymore because of the high property taxes and then they go and put all of the new rec centers and swimming pools in in wheaton and silver Spring/illegal alien land.
We have apparently elected CASA to run MoCo and they have turned our county into a free country club for illegal immigrants.

A DC resident wants to come to school here? No way. If you run across the border in Texas or Ca from El Salvador then yes here is your free public education. Come in from DC and you'll pay for your crime!!



Lady, the Wheaton/Kensington area lived with a dump of a rec center for decades. We've waited years for the new rec center/library. While it's being built we have to travel 20+ minutes to the closest rec center. Sorry about your taxes, sounds like it's time to sell and move away.

OP, Wilson HS is a great place. i bet your kid wants to go there with his/her friends.

We had to show paystubs with our address, recent utility bills (we had to go back a second time, because they rejected one of our utility bills because it wasn't sufficiently recent). We also showed our property tax statement. It wasn't like you just show up with your kid in September and they take them.

next time have your kids show up the first day of school and have none of you speak english. you'll get free food, counseling, placement tests and only have to write down an address in the language of your choice. works every time.

they absolutely take them. ask around how many kids "show up" east county the first week of school via word of mouth for MoCo daycare, I mean school. sometimes they have to add teachers there are so many show ups.

This happened at our FOCUS school this year. New K teacher had to be hired the week before school started because so many K kids showed up at the last minute.

There is no 'verification of residency' going on.

The PP who had to show a paystub (?? never at our school have I ever shown a paystub!) cannot possibly be at our FOCUS school. So many people work under the table, or are undocumented.

And before someone comes on here and says it's because the principal didn't plan better, that is simply not true. Our school has a tight budget, so our principal simply can't hire 'extra' teachers. The only way we can do so, is after the 'show ups' come to the door that last week of August.

We are in a MCPS Focus school. I'm sure many posters on here would not be happy with our school, but we're surrounded by some even higher poverty schools, so we have a good number of kids who attend our school, but do not live in boundary.

FWIW, it is well known at our school that there is a huge rush in September. Every year, a bunch of kids shows up the week before school starts and the school HAS TO let them in. There's not really much effort put into verifying residency.

I get it. But what motivates someone to continue paying 'family' or 'family friends' once their kid is enrolled at the better school? What recourse do you have once they stop?
