Is 101 pounds too skinny for 5'3 woman?

Anonymous
I'm 5'2 and 3 quarters

Pre-kids I was 98 lbs. Fit and healthy and had plenty of energy. I gained up to 120 after my second child. I had bigger boobs and a rounder bottom but also a tubby looking stomach. I also didn't feel good, had aches and pains and felt tired all the time.

I'm down to 105 now, feel MUCH better. Lost the boobs and butt though. I've gotten down to 101 and my stomach looked amazing and flat but I couldn't keep myself at that weight without severely restricting my calories.

So I now hover around 105 with a little pot belly. I'm small boned so just a few pounds in either direction really make a big difference. If I could maintain 101, I would do it and it wouldn't be too skinny.

Are you having regular periods? Do your hair and nails grow properly? Is your immune system healthy or do you get frequent colds and illnesses?

I'm 5'4" and 108 and have a tiny bit of a tummy and hips. At 101, I'd be a stick. If you've lost weight recently, work on gaining it back, muscle and fat.

It depends on your frame and level of muscle. My mom and I are both 5'2" but I'm built sturdier than she is. At my best, in high school I hovered around 100 lbs. (Haven't seen that since I started college). You have to take into consideration your body type (frame, muscle masa). Also think about other factors: do you feel frail and weak or do you feel strong and vigorous? If you look in the mirror (assuming you don't have a disorder in how you perceive yourself), do you look healthy or do you look gaunt? If you're not sure, ask those close to you.

My daughter had always been on the small side and that was right for her. However, as a teen she developed some digestive problems which caused weight loss. She started to look gaunt and unhealthy until the doctors were able to help her gain weight.

If you have any concerns, you should probably check with a doctor.

I'm almost 5'7" and 126. I am fat. I look best around 115-118. Everyone is different. I don't think it's too small OP b

I’m 5’5 and 115 and definitely not skinny. I’m just fit. I think it sounds fine, OP.

That was me in college. If you are an adult women, that’s probably too skinny, unless you have bird bones. If you’re talking about a teen or post-teen, it’s probwbly fine provided she otherwise seems healthy.

Depends on why you're asking the question. If you feel insecure because you've always been small and people bother you about it, but you're healthy, have regular periods, and eat normally, then fine. It's just the way you are.

On the other hand, if you've lost a lot of weight, are distracted by the need to lose or maintain a low weight, feel stressed, don't have your period, and don't have energy, then no, it's not okay.

What does your doctor say?

My "healthy weight" is in the range of 120, and I'm 5'5". I was anorexic in college and got down much lower than that. I was obsessed with staying thin and terrified of gaining weight. It wasn't about losing weight, just about not gaining it, but I was losing in the process. I didn't have regular periods, was cold all the time, and felt miserable.

I also had to go on a severe diet for health reasons at one point (thought I had severe allergies that were ultimately determined not to be food-related), and I lost a lot of weight but wasn't anorexic. I think that time I was about 115 or so and looked thin.

No you are not fat.

As with literally every single one of these questions, it depends on muscularity and build.

There are plenty of very thin, healthy people. However, thinking that you are "fat" at your current weight and height is a sign of body dysmorphic disorder. Your BMI is at the low end of healthy. You probably wear a size 2 or 4 or at most 6 if you have big hips or something. It is not possible to go from looking your best to looking fat in 8 lbs at your height. Get a grip.

I’m jealous. Wish I was that thin. What’s your secret?

I was that size (98-107) until about age 34 (kids). But I am very fine-boned and Asian.

I'm that height and lost my period at 98-99 lbs as a freshman in college with some disordered eating. Now I look very thin at 115 but am in my 40s so my face looks gaunt first. I don't have a tiny frame.
