I'm just resigned to being fat for a while.

Ehh being fat is a function of diet and not going to the gym

Try Orangetheory. They basically won't let you slack off. They text you to confirm that you're coming the day before and then you have a monitor strapped to you during the workout so you can't fake it. Then they email you the results of your workout. And, it's pricey enough that guilt will drive you to use the membership. I have found my energy has increased since I started going.

Not OP. Do you see one in Orange Theory who is really overweight? I love the idea of it but I'm a little self conscious. I think it would be a great motivator to do the workout and improve my fitness level.

Going to the gym is for losers. Simply improve your diet and incporate exercise into your daily life. For example walk to work, walk for errands etc.

Just a thought, but OP have you had your iron levels checked? Mine were "low normal" but I was wiped out all the time, so my doctor suggested trying iron pills to see if it helped. It did. It didn't fix everything, but my energy increased enough that I had the energy to do the dishes every night after dinner rather than going straight to bed.

I am by my account a gigantic blob compared to undergad, which was nearly 15 years ago. In undergrad I was like 11% body fat and benched 350lbs. Could run a 6 minute mile, even though I was stiff as a board. Now, after ten years of working in a big law firm, not so much.

My wife and I started going to Orange Theory very recently. I agree with what the poster said above. You are sort of trapped there for 60 minutes. And, they email you a report; though the max heart rate isn't always accurate for the monitor data. I haven't seen any improvements yet, but I am certainly better on the treadmill and rower than I was at our first class that was more than one month ago. I am generally the most out of shape and largest person there (though I am male and pretty tall). Don't care. I am just one of many people trying to get through the workout without dying! I think you should try it, and see what you think.

Yes. Although orange theory clientele skews more fit than the average gym, I have seen people of all body types and ages. They will work with you to figure out how to modify the workout if you need to. For example, if you need to walk on the treadmill rather than jog, they will go over that with you.

I’m relatively fit but not like I used to be. I’ve been going to Orange Theory about a month and my jogging has moved to running- I used to be a fast runner so this is great. The main reason I would recommend it is that you said you lack motivation, but they make it hard to skip out and hard to slack once you’re there. And then they send you a report card.

I buy the 30 min Spartacus workouts on DVD and do them in my living room. They are intense and burn decent amount of calories
