Im exhausted, but I need to find time to go to the gym. Help!

So tired, I am in school and I work full time. Most days I have to get up at 5 am for clinicals. I do have "down time" but usually I want to just sit on the couch and chill and not go to the gym. Help me get off my ass. Thanks!

We can't help you. If you don't do it for yourself, it won't happen.

Don't go to the gym. buy some free weights and work out at home.

It's counter intuitive but you just have to force yourself to go. Schedule an "appointment" like you would to the doctor and stick to you. In a few weeks you'll benefit from the endorphins and extra energy at which point you'll want to keep going.

Not OP, but I'm personally terrible at working out at home. My schedule just doesn't give me a ton of nights I can go to a class, though. I'm stuck in a rut - I go one night a week, but I need more like 3.

I'm just resigned to being fat for a while.

Can you walk/run at lunch? I second the free weights at home. Exercise apps and videos. Push yourself for a half hour before you plop down on the couch.

I agree. My workouts or runs are non-negotiable. I worked two jobs for a long time and would go running at 8 or 9pm (I actually learned to love it). I do schedule myself for one or two rest days during the week. It helps me get out there on workout days to know that I have a planned night off that I can use to just veg and be a total slug once or twice a week.

I mean...no one really LOVES working out at home - of course it doesn't feel as luxurious as a gym trip or as motivating as a workout class. We do it because we prioritize working out and that's the way we're able to fit it into our schedules. You COULD find 30 minutes (or hey, start with 20 even!) SOMEWHERE in your day (first thing in the morning or last thing at night, if not somewhere in between) to throw on a YouTube workout video and do it. If you don't, you are making excuses (which is ok, just know that)

I had to make it my down time. I was working 13 hour days and I'd make myself work out before I'd eat dinner. Then I'd lay in bed and watch tv/read/whatever before sleep. You just have to do it. Make a new normal.

OP, are you trying to lose weight, or just get blood circulation and feel better?

If you're trying to lose weight, make your diet the priority.

If the latter, I agree with PPs that it might be better to work out at home in your situation. Download one of those apps and buy some adjustable weights or bands. Or put on your running shoes and go for a brisk walk or jog - at least before it gets too cold. It's great running weather right now.

Yes but you don't even need free weights. Get a ball and some resistant bands. Walk everywhere.

There are a ton of great HIIT and all kinds of other workout videos on YouTube.

Bike to work or school.

As someone who also works and has 2 little kids and pursued a Masters at the same time, home gym is where it's at. Of course I miss the variety of equipment at a real gym but with a decent amount of equipment I can do hard work outs. If the choice is home workout or no workout, hone workout wins. Do you have space for a cables machine and bench and squat rack? If not, how about body weight work and dumbbells, resistance bands and a pull up bar?

OP I got a treadmill (and a while back I had a nordictrak.) I only allow myself to watch TV when on the treadmill.

Also, OP, sleep is more important than all of this. Get your sleep. Get off DCUM and get some sleep
