Try Orangetheory. They basically won't let you slack off. They text you to confirm that you're coming the day before and then you have a monitor strapped to you during the workout so you can't fake it. Then they email you the results of your workout. And, it's pricey enough that guilt will drive you to use the membership. I have found my energy has increased since I started going.
Not OP. Do you see one in Orange Theory who is really overweight? I love the idea of it but I'm a little self conscious. I think it would be a great motivator to do the workout and improve my fitness level.
I am by my account a gigantic blob compared to undergad, which was nearly 15 years ago. In undergrad I was like 11% body fat and benched 350lbs. Could run a 6 minute mile, even though I was stiff as a board. Now, after ten years of working in a big law firm, not so much. My wife and I started going to Orange Theory very recently. I agree with what the poster said above. You are sort of trapped there for 60 minutes. And, they email you a report; though the max heart rate isn't always accurate for the monitor data. I haven't seen any improvements yet, but I am certainly better on the treadmill and rower than I was at our first class that was more than one month ago. I am generally the most out of shape and largest person there (though I am male and pretty tall). Don't care. I am just one of many people trying to get through the workout without dying! I think you should try it, and see what you think.
