Sahm of 3 under 5 years old here. Buy 5 of these in various colors https://www.madewell.com/p/madewell_category/teesandmore/shortsleeve/whisper-cotton-vneck-pocket-tee/04346
And 2-3 pairs of pants like this http://m.shop.nordstrom.com/s/zella-live-in-high-waist-leggings/4312529 (I would do black and one color) Then go to target and buy 2-3 nude bras that fit right now that you can breastfeed in. Don't delay on this! And some cute sneakers (low cut Chuck taylors). Check out themomedit.com You're welcome. Good luck!!! |
| Ps don't buy polls!!! Wtf!!! This board is the worst!!! NO SAHM wears polis!!! |
| Polos |
+1. No woman wears polos. And if they do, they shouldn't. |
Not snark. Real question. Do you wear the leggings and that shirt out of the house or is that your outfit for at home? |
| At home mostly but will run out to get mail or push kids around in stroller/play in yard with it on. Would up my game for play date or more real outing (grocery store, mall, event at library). |
What does upping your game look like for play date, grocery store? |
More of an outfit. Skinny ankle jeans with flats and an anthro blouse. dresses from sonnet James or Boden. Athletaleuisure from lululemon or athleta (nicer outfits). Add jewelry and makeup. |
I'll be snarky. OP, definitely ignore that pp above. If you must wear those leggings out of the house (and I wouldn't) definitely do NOT wear them with those shirts or chuck taylors. FFS. |
| Wasn't ath-leisure wear made for SAHMs? |
|
Chucks are uncomfortable. Seriously.
Those leggings would be comfortable and cute with a longer a-line ath-leisure tank and wrap sweater. |
Im the previous poster with the madewell shirts. It's easy to shoot other people down, right? But it's much harder to give your own suggestions. This is actually a challenge to dress somewhat fashionably for taking care of several small children! I'm anxious to know- what's an easy, machine washable, not crazy expensive SAHM uniform that can accommodate a postpartum pooch, breastfeeding, carrying infants and toddlers around, and lots of bending over and up and down from the floor? Include links. |
+2 POLOS? Seriously?? |

I love these pants. I wear them with these or a black tank and a cropped sweatshirt. http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1059471&pcid=1059471&vid=1&pid=777555002 Very practical and great for travel or being on the go all day I have both of these, really easy to wear with or without leggings. Throw on a cute scarf and a pair of boots or street sneakers and. you can go http://athleta.gap.com/browse/division.do?cid=46831&mlink=10131442,topNav_Dresses,visnav&clink=10131442 I have this shirt in several stripes and solid colors https://www.madewell.com/madewell_category/TEESANDMORE/longsleeve/PRDOVR~G7774/G7774.jsphttps://www.madewell.com/madewell_category/SWEATERS/cardigans/PRDOVR~G9615/G9615.jsp is great with skinny jeans a tee and camel ankle boots I can post more if you like these looks but its a basic idea |
+3. I don't know where the Polo poster lives, but I live in the Bethesda area and the only women who wear polos are playing tennis or golfing. Polos are NOT in fashion!!!! The moms running around with babies are all in athletic wear (even often at the Mall and on playdates). Take a look at Athleta, Lucy, Zella at Nordstrom, Lululemon if you have a bigger budget. That is what all the moms are wearing at preschool drop off. Find some exercise pants that fit you nicely and then buy them in different patterns/colors. The tops depend on your figure. If you are curvier, you need looser ones that cover your butt (I need these). If you are really skinny you can get away with more fitted tops. (Not fair, but that's how it is). On days they want to look more put together, but not too put together (play group, music class etc), the moms wear jeans and a top and the addidas type shoes that have made a comeback or converse as another poster suggested. For a nicer look for fall days you put on some ankle boots, jeans, and a sweater. If you want to wear tanks with built in support, get a sweater like this to toss over it if you are going further than your mailbox: http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1079107&pcid=1078932&vid=1&pid=228813082 or. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/zella-hatha-cardigan/4412819?origin=category-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=GREY%20DARK%20HEATHER |
