progressive Catholic church in Rockville/DC/Arlington area?

Anonymous
St Charles in Arlington has a very active and good size young adults group and the Sunday 6pm mass was originally set up specifically for this group. This is largely because of its location in Clarendon. For many years we had progressive pastors who really led by example. The past 3 years or so our pastor has been much more conservative and not particularly inspiring though our other priest is much more interesting.

I think I know the priest of whom you speak, and, yes he is pretty uninspiring and stiff. It made us not really want to return.

Good. That's the point. Cleanse the church of people who don't know what it means to be Roman Catholic.

We just need to wait out this (anti-)Pope before we can do that again throughout the Church.

+1. they're Jesuit and not nearly as conservative as some of the other congregations in the area.

But won't have your Catholic beliefs reinforced, assuming that it's important to you.

You can be UU-anything. UU Jewish, UU Catholic, UU Atheist.

Yes, the UU's will accept you, but you won't hear anything about catholic teachings during services. No communion, no priest, no talk against abortion or birth control.

Going to UU services is equivalent to missing mass.

I was with you until that last sentence...

I was raised Catholic, and went to a Catholic University. In all my childhood and adolescence, I never once heard a homily on abortion or birth control. I heard a lot the focused on loving your neighbor, caring for the poor, working for justice, seeking and offering forgiveness, and strengthening your faith. These are values that other faiths share. I have been to services at other churches, and certainly had my Catholic beliefs reinforced, because the officiant talked about love, justice, faith, and forgiveness.

another vote for Holy Trinity in Gtown. The "ass mass" on Sunday evening is popular with young people.

I am Catholic and went to Catholic school and so do my kids, but certain parishes do talk about abortion, homosexuality and birth control during the homily.

I changed parishes because of it.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Arlington (surprised no one has mentioned it yet). About as progressive as possible IMO.

+1. Stay far far away from the Arlington diocese. This was literally the last diocese in the entire country to allow girls be altar servers, and they held out for quite some time...if that tells you anything
