Would it bother you if your child's teacher said this?

I can sit on the floor modestly wearing a dress. WTF?

No allowing sitting cross legged on the floor with dresses is ok.
I don't like saying sit like a lady.

I think if they have leggings on they should be able to sit on the floor but I can see it getting awkward for him to determine that they're not tights etc.

What's wrong with sitting cross legged in tights? If underwear isn't showing, it's not showing and there's not problem, regardless of tights vs leggings.

Even if this is a female teacher, I would be wondering why they are trying to teach my child how to sit like a "lady" - I'm not down with "old world" definitions of how my child should/shouldn't sit. For the record, my child doesn't wear dresses to school - but I would be furious about her learning about these types of things at school.

I'm even more concerned because my child is the same age as yours and my childs teacher is a man. Is this in VA by any chance?

I'd raise hell. Don't police my daughter's clothing.

My kid isn't a lady. She's a kid.

+1. Completely inappropriate.

I don't have super strong feelings on it. Some you can see through and some have a white crotch area.

I take it you have never had a male boss or colleague who is careful not to be alone in your office with the door closed, etc.? Men must be careful. Male teachers must be very careful.

My brother used to teach elementary school. He quit because of stupid shit like this. If your kid in a dress is trying to sit cross-legged, then thank goodness someone is saying something to her or him. That's extremely inappropriate.

Tights are a kind of undergarment outside the gym IMO and you shouldn't sit cross legged in them unless you are at yoga class.

I would lose my fucking shit. That is ridiculous.

Teach your DD what to wear and how to wear it.

How about and email in general like "remember if you are wearing dresses or skirts to have clothes like playground shorts, leggings or tights under them for play or sitting during carpet time!"

But to tell my child to sit like a lady? F that. If I was OP, I would be in the office the next day asking why we time traveled back to 1950.

+100

Y'all are nuts to attack a male teacher about this. And leggings/tights are not pants.

If you read (which you obviously are too focused on little girls private parts to know how to do) the OP said the girls ARE wearing leggings under the dresses and STILL are being told to "sit like a lady" or have to sit in chairs.
