Long Term Power Outages Rolling Blackouts Hatteras Avon -Mandatory Evacuation Ocracoke

PP with upcoming rental. We called the realty office. It's not clear whether the policy covers. Based on the language of the policy, I think it is unlikely we will be covered.

Now trying to figure out what to do this week instead...

I would NOT want to be stuck there trying to evacuate, mandatory or not, when sh!t hits the fan during bad weather. That area has at least one major tornado or hurricane every single August and/or September. We stopped spending our money there for that reason - we kept losing our rental money, and it just wasn't worth it. We can't afford to be out thousands of dollars.

Depends on policy and rental company

I was the pp who is going this weekend. We rented through Outer Beaches and the trip insurance through them only covers evacuations due to natural disasters.

Is there ever a mandatory exaction? I would think that the area would try to protect the powers that be (and NOT have mandatory evacuation, so as to not have mandatory refunds).

They just issued mandatory power conservation order. All AC and hot tub heater breakers must be turned off for all of Dare County south of Oregon Inlet.

Thanks. We are not going to go unless power is restored. We have a Sunday rental.

We are now trying to figure out what to do instead.

So you just lose the rental money for the week?

There is now a Mandatory Visitor Evacuation for Hatteras Island including towns of Waves, Avon, Rondanthe, Salvo, Hatteras, Buxton.

If you are coming down this week you will not be allowed in island.

Wow, so unfortunate for business owners and vacationers. Many losing thousands.

Outer Beaches won't refund renters. We rent with them every year because the houses we like are listed thru them. But they are awful. We've had issues from time to time over the years and every time they pretty much tell us tough shit.
I can't stand having to rent through them.
Tough luck for the people who lost all their vacation money

Don't people use credit cards? Just let visa deal with it.

Does the construction company have any liability? I'm sure they have insurance...

We are pretty sure that the insurance we purchased through Outer Beaches will cover us but we need to wait for claim to be processed in 30 days. In the meantime we are desperately searching for an alternative vacation to start tomorrow which is sucking up all the getting ready time.

You could go to Hilton head
