getting the bikini area waxed

It sounds like OP would benefit from the confidence waxing would give her. I agree on principle, though, that the costly and painful ripping out of pubic hair by the roots is a pleasure men deserve to share. They should also be shamed as unkempt if they don't do it, and they should be magically made to care if women think they're unkempt.

Actually, "man"-icuring or "man"-scaping down there is becoming more popular for the guys. My DH trims down there. So do most guys I know. Although he trims which is a far cry from ripping strips of hair off with hot wax. But I think a full bald wax job would be wierd on a guy.

11:15 here. It would indeed be wierd on a guy, but that would be because our culture has associated hairlessness with femininity in obvious denial of our common mammalian heritage.

I'm not sure what a "manscape" trimming would look like... hmm. How, exactly, have the "most guys" you know informed you that they trim?

Anyway, I'm not opposed to female grooming in practice, because there are consequences for women who buck beauty norms, but on principle, it bothers me. Brazilians unsettle me the most because the total absence of pubic hair is something I associate with... children.

Just make sure that "for show" you have more than a tiny landing strip. Have them leave more of a little natural v shape. But what they leave is all for show. EVERYTHING down below will be gone, and you absolutely want that and so will DH. Go for it! Your DH will be in heaven! But I agree, don't do it at your nail salon.

Blunt question: will DH like it because of the look or the feel (during foreplay or intercourse) or both? Will I like it?

I accidentally got ALMOST a total brazilian recently (don't ask) and I will say this....WOW for the sensations down there. WOW WOW WOW. I am not saying I am going to keep it up all winter, but it is lovely for right now!

It feels great for the woman and the man! I'm totally with you on the child-like creepy factor, which is why I always leave something for show up top, but bald below is all about the feel. And to respond to 11:15/11:55-- I um, echem, uh know many guys' manscaping habits. (I've only been married a year.) I also know that many of DH's friends manscape because it has come up before. DH and his friends all use clippers to trim. They do it for us, but I've also learned that they think it makes them look bigger.

Time for a cross-post on the dads forum?

OP here. Well I went today. Elizabeth arden. They talked me down from a Brazilian to a "bikini plus and patch (butt area). It didn't hurt. No tylenol or anything.

So I haven't had a chance to uh, try it out yet But I'll keep you posted.

The only thing that surprised me was the... frog-leg position she asked me to assume. No big deal. Just not what I expected and didn't hear about that anywhere...

Thanks ladies!

Good for you, OP. Have fun with it.
I get waxed for myself and no one else. It makes me feel more confident, the sex is better and not worrying about strays or shaving when in a bathing suit is priceless.
Oh, and my DH has been "bizarrely self-mutilating" himself (waxing his back) for years so I don't feel so oppressed by traditional stereotypes.

Good for you! I may have to check out Elizabeth Arden. I've had a full brazilian twice as a thank you to my DH for being super about the fact that my libido evaporated for the three years that I've been pregnant/nursing. I went to Blue Mercury and it was more painful the second time around.

I hope yours is *ahem* well appreciated.

I have one warning. I've been doing Brazilians for about 4 years now. I usually go to the Sugar House in Alexandria. (near my work) I had to be up in Bethesda for something else and was due. I made an appointment at a spa in Downtown Bethesda. I found out that it is Maryland law that they cannot wax the inner labia. At least that is what the waxer told me. If you are going all the way, you definitely want this part done too. (at least with respect to the sensations) This is just a warning for all of you. I hadn't had a wax in MD before.

Were they BSing me or is this true? I'm happy at the Sugar House, but I can't always get there and I would like to have a second place. I won't be choosing one in MD if that is the case.

Don't do the Brasilian wax on your fisrt time.I never did the Brasilian, but do the regular "small strip in the middle" kind of wax ones every month....I LOVE IT!!!
Professional person will make you feel very confortable(*ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT!)
If you don't feel confortable, don't came back and I garantee that person is NOT professional.
The person I use for the wax makes her own honney-made-max and she is brazilian =)
Good luck.

One of the best things I ever did was to have my bikini line lasered. No more waxing! Had it done three years ago and one of the best decisions I've ever made.

In the end less expensive and a real savings of time, too. Less painful than waxing. Three 10-minute sessions is all it took for me.
