| Wood acres is huge, much larger than many of the other elementary schools in Bethesda in terms of enrollment. Westbrook is on the small side so many kids know everyone in the school. This doesn't impact class sizes as that is the luck of the draw depending on the grade. One grade at the school may have 19 kids per class while another one may have 30. |
| Wood acres is great. This was our first year and can only say good things about the school and neighborhood. More kids, yes, but lots of international diversity and more resources to go with it. Plus, it's the only school with a planetarium which is just awesome : ) |
Every single ES in Bethesda has huge international "diversity" though I don't really think the diversity police on DCUM would like you using that word... |
| Friends love Westbrook. Classes stay small there because more parents opt for private after grade 2 or 3 due to concerns about MCPS curriculum. (NOT the school, just the curriculum, which is basically the same at the elementary level). |
Westbrook is in a lower income area and has less kids in it. That's why the numbers stay lower in the classrooms. Its an area of couples and aged folks. |
Really? I live there and it seems like there are kids everywhere. Oh well, I guess I will enjoy the smaller class sizes with the rest of the poors. |
Wha? Those neighborhoods are TEEMING with kids. And not poor ones either. |
| I just lol. Westbrook is not a lower income area. Its boundaries are just smaller. But whatever, I'll enjoy our nice, small, lower SES school! |
Wood acres is higher than most due to being at just up from embassy row but still agreed with your points. |
What? While there might be a few lower income folks in the modest 750k bungalows along western and what not I am not sure i would call a neighborhood with that as it's entry price point "lower income". The zip code that both schools reside in has one of the higher median incomes in the entire metro area, there isn't really any poor people in 20816. |
Westbrook is closer to Embassy Row than Woodacres. Westbrook is a very close knit, community school. The neighborhood is teaming with children of all ages, and I would not say that income levels are low. It is so obvious from the posts about Westbrook that most of you don't know what you are talking about. I know about both neighborhoods. I think it will come down to whether you want your kids at Whitman or BCC. The principal at Westbrook is retiring at the end of the term. I have always thought she was a lovely person. |
Yes westbard splits them but being low income and all how on earth could one hope to attract diplomats

| My child started Westbrook this year and it has been a wonderful experience. Today was their carnival, which is an annual tradition. I've never seen anything like it. It was huge and there were so many middle and high schoolers that were there and I was told that it is tradition for the kids to return annually. It is truly a wonderful and inclusive community that I am excited that my child gets to be part of! |

| Westbrook's MS and HS are not as well considered or as high ranking as Woodacres. Westland MS and BCC HS are just not as good. |
