Westbrook v Woodacres?

Cultural and other differences? Much appreciated!

Both are across westbard from each other and are sweet and very good. Woodacres feeds to Pyle and Whitman while Westbrook feeds to Westland and BCC. That will be where the differences are. Woodacres has a slightly more international contingent and the school is mostly brand new with lots of room to grow into. But it isn't like Westbrook is really bursting at the seems either, both are close to as good as it gets in MoCo.

Thanks! Woodacres felt much more vibrant when we visited but it is difficult to tell much...

Wood acres is definitely more desirable among my friends. I think the neighborhoods that feed to WA are vibrant and full of young, fun families. Halloween in those neighborhoods is supposed to be great fun!

Halloween is very cool and more generally the neighborhood is very friendly with lots of young families. Most families are pretty down to earth and since homes are somewhat more affordable than other nearby areas, but affordable is relative as it certainly isn't cheap. We practically live at the park near the school and there are usually lots of kids around on the weekend. My kids aren't quite old enough for WA, but neighbors who have had kids at WA have spoken very positively about the school.

Thanks! We are slightly put off by the larger class sizes at WA and WB is 4 kids less in grades 1-3. WB seems to have a lot of bland, empty hallways whereas WA seemed very full of life. just based on the tour. liked the WA principal and haven't met WB principal. Have heard WB principal has issues

I have only ever heard very positive things about Woodacres and know some very clever and diverse families attend.

Also as it feeds into Pyle and Whitman which are the highest ranking of the Bethesda middle and high schools.

BCC has the IB which Whitman does not, but its overall ranking is much lower, which is a great shame!

Didn't Whittman's rating drop considerably this year?

Woodacres is more crowded than Westbrook. Class sizes are much smaller at Westbrook if you look at the MCPS data.

What is up with that? Seriously, I want to know what is up with that!

Yeah. Apparently a lot of Whitman kids blew off the Parcc test last year, and the scores for that counted heavily in the rankings.

Its still the #1 HS in Bethesda, by a long shot though. And a one year dip, is nothing in the longer term.

That is pre-renovation data, woodacres had smaller class sizes this year and a smaller capacity vs enrollment ratio albeit more total kids
