LOL nothing. How ridiculous. Hey I'm graduating 10th grade! Give me money!
|
I think the OP is stating that in this particular case, the person is graduating from a CC with an associates degree, but then going directly to a 4-year college to pursue a BS/BA degree. In this case, it is strange that they are celebrating this accomplishment with a party, presumably only to celebrate again 2 years later. I agree that if the associates degree was the intended terminal degree, then it makes sense. OP - I would just give a card and gift card anyway, because obviously it is very important for the family that this child received this degree, regardless of future plans. |
Congratulations to your child. It is an accomplishment to complete two years of college and negotiate the transfer process. She had a significant goal and she was able to pull it off |
| Check. Made out in parent's name for the graduate. |

As the parent of a child who is not perfect like OP is, this would be a big celebration, even if my child goes on to a four college. Why?
Because school is always a struggle due to multiple LDs, just getting through high school is a challenge. HS graduation will be awesome. If my child can graduate with an Associates, awesome. Graduate from four-year university? Awesome. But each of the steps is not a guarantee, and we will happily celebrate each one. Maybe this grad has a similar story, or maybe not. |
My kid too! |
You are very mean spirited. There is no law saying you have to give anyone anything but, to ignore the fact that it is an accomplishment is very childish on your part. |
| This isn't a good place to ask a question like this. People from upper/middle class backgrounds are out of touch and assume that everyone who attended community college is a failure. |
You sound bitter, mean-spirited, and clueless. It is an accomplishment for these students no matter how you try to belittle it and no one is asking YOU for anything. The community colleges organize the graduation ceremonies; it is not the students organizing them. Many students are unable to go directly to a 4-year college for whatever reasons. Sometimes it's financial or they are not yet ready maturity-wise or academically. I am thankful that there is a community college option as a stepping stone to a larger university, or for a certificate program, or associates degree for people who need this option. |
+1 |
But she is going to a 4 year college. She will "graduate" again in two years. I'll happy attend and give a nice big check then. |
| You must love birthdays, LOL! Every G-D- year, they expect another present! And for what? Being born?! We already celebrated that! Staying alive another 365 days? BFD -- get back to me when you've got something worth celebrating. Kids today. They expect a prize just for showing up.... |
