| $600 per month per kid. Our kids are 19 and 16, older one is a rising sophomore at a private SLAC. DC got merit aid and our All-in cost is $34k/year. We don't qualify for need based aid. Our kids will not have student loan debt. |

I just wanted to say thanks to all you folks paying full sticker price so that we can get need-based aid when our kids are ready.

This. My $200 a month for 8th grader is peanuts. Started off as $50 when she was born. |
You're welcome. Thanks for being a slacker. |
| $1000/year. Between regular savings (for emergencies and such), paying bills, insurance, etc. that is all that we can afford. And we will NOT sacrifice our own retirement savings for college. |
Do you teach a subject you can tutor? My mom tutored algebra from the time I was a child and was able to increase her business when she finally retired from teaching. If there were more hours in the day she could tutor more. Math tutors are in high demand. |
| $4k/kid/year. Before we had the second we did $8k/year for the first. Are going to up it marginally this year by $50/per kid/per month and see if we notice the difference. If not, we'll try upping it again the next year. Kids are 6 and 2. |
| Nothing. DD is going to get the Poor People Scholarships. |

When each of our kids were born we started putting away $4,000 per year - that hurt at first, but once we got used to it it was like it was never there.
Then each year, we increase each kid's monthly contribution by $25 - so the plan is that by the time they are 18, that will amount to a total of $9,000 annually per kid. We are assuming we get no need-based aid, and no merit aid, and we are on target to be able to afford either in-state tuition in VA, or out-of-state tuition at a public school in a different state.
