She's a toddler let her enjoy her clothes, and her play and not feel shame for her body.

NP here. This has nothing to do with female empowerment, crazy lady.

A) Long shorts make it possible to slide down a slide when it is too hot on her bare butt/legs.
B) when she flips over on the monkey bars, she wants the freedom to NOT have the other kids to laugh at her when they see her underwear.
c) My kid's church preschools required shorts under dresses, so they are required as part of the dress code. No shame involved.

There is no reason to call names.
OP's reasoning is entirely sexist as is your kid's church uniform even if you don't realize it.
If your daughter wants to wear shorts under her dress that is fine, but the fact the the kids ( I suspect mainly boys think it's okay to laugh at a girl's underpants) is the result of sexism.

Oh, really? So boys run around the playground in their underwear and their crotch showing when they climb up the monkey bars?
You can still be a feminist and at the same time cover your personal bits. Modesty is not something to be ashamed of.

NP here - toddler girl clothes are cut smaller, tighter, and shorter than boys. Compare a 3T tshirt from the boys and girls section. My 97th percentile toddler needs to size up 2-3 sizes in girls and fits her size or a size up in boys. She also skins her knees constantly and injures herself more when wearing clothes that show a ton of skin. I want her to run and play without being afraid to hurt herself. How many friction burns on the slide or bloody knees will it take before she decides it's not worth it?

My four year DD prefers Capri leggings specifically because she can go down the slides wearing them. Straight from the horse's mouth (very sweet adorable horse).

Sometimes I buy shorts in the boys' section. If you are handy with a sewing machine you can hem pants they've outgrown or just roll them up like we did when we were kids.

Tucker and Tate line at Nordstrom has a lot of longer shorts

NP. Even T-shirts tend to be shorter than I'd like to see. So I also find I have to buy a size up.

My 2-year-old daughter has three pairs of these boys' Cat and Jack shorts (in various colors): http://www.target.com/p/toddler-boys-pull-on-shorts-cat-jack-153-wild-blue-yonder/-/A-51802744. They're maybe a little longer than I'd prefer (I don't like very long shorts on children), but they're cute and seem really durable.

We have 4 year old twin girls. They are pretty tall for their age. I've gotten bike shorts and skirts and twill shorts from the chikdrens place the past couple years. Just got them in a few colors. They worked out fine and didn't seem too short or anything.

This is PP with the twins. We usually size up too. They are 4 but wear a size 5 or 6 now.

I just buy my daughter "boy" shorts

OP- thanks everyone. I bought the cat and jack shorts. Only $4 this week at target.

I buy my 3yo daughter boy shorts and longer length "bike" shorts from Carters and Hanna Anderson.

And no, this is not out of a sense of modesty. I want her to have coverage from the sun, hot slides, dirt, gravel, wood chips, etc., i.e. the function of clothing that boys get to have.

here is an article from scary mommy about a lady who was sick of short shorts for girls and started her own line.
