I haven't seen it, but I have two friends who have gone (not together--separately with other people), They are both people who have been to lots of shows and they absolutely cried about how wonderful it is. When they found out that each other had been, that is all they could talk about. They both saw it in NYC and would love to see it again. I think one of them spent BIG bucks, but said it was worth it.
If it is keeping you from eating, then don't go. If it is keeping you from buying a new outfit, then go. |

I saw it in NY with original cast and am seeing it again in Chicago next month. Chicago is a "permanent" production which will run indefinitely (not stopping in for a month-long run as a touring group). But I think both the touring cast and permanent casts are going to be superb because a show of this caliber can attract top talent.
Chicago has Karen Olivo as Angelica - she was Vanessa in the original cast of In The Heights, LMM's first show on Broadway. She's amazing. Wayne Brady just finished a stint as Aaron Burr in the Chicago cast. So really - you can't go wrong. Regarding the National Theater's series that includes Hamilton that a pp mentioned, I just bought the series about two weeks ago and there were plenty of tickets then. It includes the premier of Mean Girls (before it moves to Broadway), Les Miz, and Waitress. And of course Hamilton at the Kennedy Center. Enjoy OP - the show is great! |
| Saw it in Chicago and the cast was amazing. I say do it. |
| NP - thank you everyone for the recommendations! I'm looking at tickets in Chicago in a few months, and you're giving me the encouragement to get over sticker shock. |

NP here. I just looked and there are seats for the 4 show package but the 5 show with Hamilton is sold out. |
| Do it! I saw it in Chicago this past weekend and already cannot wait to see it again. And apart from the show, we had a fabulous time in Chicago - such a wonderful location for a weekend getaway. |

I saw it and loved every minute of it.
That being said, I try not to think about what we spent ($400 per ticket). In all honesty, I will never spend that sort of money again for a show... but it was an amazing show and a wonderful experience. I don't really regret spending the money... but I just won't do it again. Not sure another show will ever be worth that. |
| The cast recording is available on Amazon prime music - if you want to familiarize yourself with it before you go. Some say it enhances the experience, others prefer to experience it all at once. I've never seen the show, but am obsessed with it due to the music! |
I'm a little surprised you got these two weeks ago! I bought them at the end of March and a friend tried to buy a single ticket a week later and they were sold out then! |
| American capitalism at its finest. Children are starving in Africa, refugees have nothing but the clothes on their backs. I hope you people that spend $400 also give a shitload of money to charity to help the poor. |
I'm PP you're quoting who bought the 5-show package recently. I just checked the date and it was April 21. I bought 4 seats, Orchestra right. Interesting...... I agree with the PP who said one should listen to the music first before seeing the show - I personally think it enhances it because you don't miss the little nuances. The brilliance of this show is in the lyrics, which all have double and sometimes triple meaning. And all the different genres of music that seem to suit the scene/lyrics. And to the PP worried about starving children, DH and I typically give between $10,000-$20,000 per year to one education and one hunger organization for children in DH's home country (developing country in Asia) and we've personally put in hundreds of volunteer hours with these two organizations, both raising money, and working in their facilities in said country. We work hard so if I want to treat us to an expensive show, I'll do it! |
Nobody cares what you think. |
| I think it's worth it. I just dropped 650 on season tickets to the national theater, 5 shows plus Hamilton tickets at the Kennedy Center. Well worth it |
| My ex took our 2 kids and his GF up to NYC to see it. Pretty sure he knew it killed me. |
