Lafayette is an overall great school, but 4th grade is the weakest. |
How do we know Fenty didn't participate in the lottery? |
Ye Gods, first we complain 'cause his kids are in private, now we complain 'cause they're going to public. I agree with PP - how do we know they didn't participate? |
He should have his pick because he is mayor. And I am not a big Fenty fan either - just don't see what the big deal is. Plus no matter what choice he makes, folks will still complain. |
I'm the PP who asked how people know Fenty didn't go through the proper channels. Even if he didn't, so what. His kids are going to public school. He kept his word on that. Plus if he did not go through the lottery maybe there are slots in his twins' grade. If not, then so bet it. He's a VIP and he got VIP treatment. At this point I don't care.
I hope the media leave the Fenty twins alone. I feel so sorry for Sasha and Malia. (Especially Malia. She looks like she really hates the attention.) |
baaa baaa complacent sheep |
20:12 And your bleat is?
Seriously, what is your point? |
Just ,,,,
few except the fringe are "bothering" the twins or Sasha and Malia. But endless handwringing over their "fate" obscures the responsible choices their parents should be making. What kind of lesson is that for the twins or the girls if the choice is hypocritical? They will be perfectly "safe" no matter where they go to school; their parents should not exempt themselves from the same responsibilities, limitations, and priviliges the policies they enact put on the rest of us. |
The White House press corps isn't exactly what I would call the fringe! Of course the situations are quite different. I am not familiar with any press coverage of the Fenty children. |
Apropos of this, do you think Sasha and Malia didn't jump over a bunch of qualified kids to go to Sidwell? Fenty should be able to send his kids to any public school he wants as long as he is working on fixing up the others. |
12:10 I agree with you. Of course technically Malia and Sasha applied outside of the process altogether. I don't think Sidwell typically accepts mid-year applications or transfers, except with previously enrolled students. |
I thought the choice to put them in Sidwell was super-hypocritical; at that point it was moot to me who they jumped over... |
In the Obama case safety and privacy trump everything else. No way they could have done public - not with the number of threats they face. Too many to count and too much to risk.
In DCPS teachers are able to send their kids to the school they teach in - and they get slots that could go to others. So it's not ok to give teachers a break? |
That's BS. Amy Carter did public. Why should DC teacher policies apply to the Obamas or to the Fentys? Are they teaching school now? |
Are you trying to compare the threats that the Obamas face to Jimmy Carter - are you for real? I just read somewhere that the threats against Obama are 400% more than the previous President. Can't compare the two. I was raised here and remember when Amy Carter went to public - her first day was a zoo, even by 70s standards. And if I am not mistaken she ended up going to private anyway, Holton Arms I think.
I am not saying that the teacher policies should apply to the Obamas or the Fentys I think they should be able to go wherever they want. But if I am reading the previous posts correctly and we want everyone to be treated the same then teachers should lose their ability to take slots that should go to those who have gone through the process and procedures outlined by DCPS. |
