| Kids today, eh. haha |
The site he/she posted from confused this Signs with Snoop's Signs in attribution. I doubt this poster even looked at what she copied. |

"Playground Equipment for Use During School Hours Only" How on earth is one expected to understand that we can still use the playground equipment after school hours??? It actually seems as if the school system is trying to get people out of its playgrounds after school, even though it might not have the legal right to do so. |
Ha ha, I never said during school.... |
Because that's not ACTUALLY what the sign said. If you read OP's post, she clarifies the details and then multiple people responding reiterated that the details are what make it clear that the sign refers to non enrolled students not being allowed on the playground during the school day but are free to use it any other time. |
That's not what the sign says. It says 'Playground equipment for use by enrolled students during school hours.' It says nothing about outside of school hours. |
That's how parking signs are, too. They specify when parking is limited. If it's Sunday, and the sign is silent about parking on Sunday, then you can park there on Sunday without restrictions. |

The police will stop and run people out of the local ES playgrounds where I live. They take those signs to mean that the playground is only for kids at the school AND can only be used during school hours.
I say the wording is ambiguous, but I'm not one to argue with the police. I just learned to take extra toys for the younger sibling while we were at the ES for older sibling's soccer practice. I think it's crazy that the kid's can't play on the equipment while waiting for their siblings to finish practice, but the one officer said it's a legality issue. The sports team using the field is liable for any injuries because they have an agreement with the county to use the field; playing on the equipment of a school makes the school liable for any injuries. |
Which county? |
No. It is perfectly fine in FCPS. The OP (and several other posters) read something there that isn't. As posted earlier: https://www.fcps.edu/community-use-availability-and-fees couldn't be clearer. Go play! |
Wow, that's crazy. Where was this? |
| I WISH the POLICE would run out the people who walk their dogs right through school property!!!! No one obeys the NO PETS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS SIGNS! I watched a person let their dog take a poop and not pick it up right next to the playground. I then handed them a plastic bag and pointed to the sign and told them to never come back- with the pet. I waited for them pick it up and walk off the campus. |
| I've stopped at Shrevewood elementary and seen the same exact sign. It was confusing to me as well, since my kids have played at numerous other Fairfax county elementary school playgrounds (Haycock, Kent Gardens, a few in Vienna) with no sign like this. Those playgrounds say that during school hours only students can play. |
| Shrevewood is a weird school. I'm not surprised by the sign. The school has a very rigid, prison-like atmosphere. |
That's stupid. The school isn't even liable when a kid gets injured during recess, unless they were incredibly neglectful. |
