Are affairs prevalent among travel team parents and what has your experience been?

That other spouse would have to be a real dirt bag, especially considering the kids... their parents during sports no less!

My friend's husband started traveling for his job 5 times a year. She wanted him to not travel, or get another job but he refused. Feeling like that was a red flag she hired a p.i. close to the hotel he was staying at. Sure enough he was hitting on women at the bar, but apparently didn't get lucky. A few weeks before the next trip she had a nice talk with him. Made it clear they had a great marriage, but any cheating would be a deal breaker. And that she expected him to communicate any problems they could work on together. He totally agreed. Well long story short he picked up a woman and brought her to his hotel room.

She filed for divorce and shocked the heck out of him. She showed him the photos and never looked back though he cried a river etc. He lied right to her face and very convincing. How he acted when she wasn't around was very sad and disappointing.

Cool novel, bro. What does this have to do with travel sports?

OP suspects and should do the same thing. No sense living that way, get to the bottom of it. There's a reason for the suspicion.

OP what makes you thing something is going on?
Either way you need to get to the bottom of it, but don't let on to your spouse.

I have five children, in various travel sports. Maybe I'm naive but I have NEVER seen this, ever. The parents all know each other fairly well and I just can't even think of circumstances where this *could* go on. Usually, you are staying in a hotel room with your child - at least until age 15 or so, so where are you going to do it? Often people hang out at the hotel bar, or a restaurant or something, but that's it. And I would think they would have to be a different level of stupid because it would definitely get back to the spouse.

Actually they do, I've seen it. There are opportunists everywhere, he was one of them. One of my friends went back east to visit family. Started an affair "thinking" her husband would never find out. Yes they had a very good marriage. It was exciting, fun, and adventurous until he got wise.

That's what I was thinking. I hope OP gets back to us, I want to know more details.

I did a few years of travel teams and the parents were likely 75% male, 25% female. With kids in tow I never saw people trying to hook up. The whole environment was about as non affair friendly as I can imagine. Right up there with church work group trips. If people are looking to stray there are many better places like hotel bars on business trips.

Why do suspect an affair? How's your sex life? Is your DH given ou any indication that he's not attracted to you? Are you guys emotionally distant from each other?

Guy here - years ago my 10 year old son was on a hockey travel team and we had to drive about 300 miles to a game. My DW asked if a GF of hers and her son could drive with us. No problem except after 200 miles we got stuck in a blizzard and had to pull off and find somewhere to stay. Naturally, the dumpy motel only had one room left so, yes, we took it. So after fun phone conversations with our spouses we all camped out in the room. So in my 30+ years of marriage it's the only night I've spent in a motel room with a woman other than my wife. Thank God, I've finally come clean!

We live in Arlington and my son plays on two travel teams. This post is hilarious. NOTHING like that ever happens when we are staying at hotels.

Here's the basic schedule...

After the games...

* The kids all swim in the indoor pool.

* We eat dinner as a big group in the common breakfast area of the hotel- we are usually at Marriott Residence Inn type places. Sometimes we grill, sometimes we order in for the whole group. The moms usually go off in one group and the dads usually go off in another. Moms drink wine. Dads drink beer. Sometimes someone will bring a blender and we'll drink margaritas.

* Everyone goes to bed in their own rooms and we'll see each other again at breakfast in the morning.

Obvs, someone could have an affair with another travel parent without hookng up during the tournament.

This seems very unlikely unless you're traveling with an independent teenager with his own room. I guess it's possible if you have a younger child who would share a room with other kids, but still...it's highly unlikely that this could be hidden from the other parents. If they're all in the same hotel, someone would see something.

Just my observation, affairs are not limited to unhappy marriages and many, perhaps most, people do not get caught.

I have heard a tale of an affair amongst one travel team. I'm always amazed when I hear of parents at a school having an affair with another parent. Poor kids!
