| It doesn't matter if you were seated first, it matters which seat you are in. Without that info we can't tell you anything, but being a female and sitting first doesn't entitle you to anything. |
She said middle seat in her post. Even if she didn't say it, if she were fighting two different people for an armrest, wouldn't that imply she was in a middle seat? |
| Armrest wars. Such a good way to pass the time. I personally wish people wouldn't use them as they kind of encroach on my space. |
| OP here. For clarification, I was seated on the aisle on both flights and I am a lean 5'6" lady. While my seat mates were bigger than me, they were not oversized. |
So let me get this straight: because you were there first, you believe you are entitled to the armrest, and the poor person in the middle seat should be made even less comfortable as a result? Attitudes like this are why flying sucks so much. We are all in this together. Middle gets both. You have your very own armrest on the other side. |
| You share it. One person has the front part of the armrest, the other person has the back part of the armrest. |
| The middle owns both, but not so much that their elbows/arms poke out over to the other side. |
Totally agree. If someone is in the seat next to you, neither of you should touch the armrest (unless spouse or child). Too close; space invader. |
| Airline owns it! But, if you were seated first, why didn't you take the arm rest? |
Have you ever been seated in a middle seat?! No reason that person shouldn't get the armrests. I'm fine avoiding "shared" armrests otherwise. |
Except courtesy. I'm a man and I always cede armrest to female passengers unless they're overtly unpleasant in some way. |
| Middle seat should get both armrests. It's the least liked seat and that's pretty much their only benefit. |

Middle person gets both or neither touches it.
I am generally fairly laid back but if I am on a flight and a man continues to invade my space (elbows over the rest, spreading legs), I say "Excuse me, could you please stop touching me." It makes men much more aware of their bodies. |
