Wooton or QO

Go to QO and create a strong schedule or do a signature program.

Wootton is not a better environment for high achievers, it is toxic.

You high achieving child will be just as high achieving at QO but a little bit kinder and well rounded.

Wootton parents won't admit how toxic the school is because their house value will suffer.

What do you mean by toxic? Any real life examples would be helpful... and not just rumors.

This is such a bummer to hear about Wooton. NP here and we love neighborhoods that just happen to feed into Wooton. But we are not cut throat at all and prob a more average academically. Does this mean we are screwed when our kids go to Wooton?

If having more high performing kids means it's toxic, then PP is right.

No having a high achieving child is not toxic.

Shaming him at every misstep is toxic. Comparing him to his peers is toxic. Talking to other moms about each others grades to compare and ensure you are "the best" is toxic. Not allowing extra curriculars because they take away from study time is toxic. Creating a schedule too strong for your child and making them so 4+ hours of homework with little sleep is toxic. Trying to keep up with the Lees is toxic.

Okay, I see a Wootton hater is on this morning who hates but knows nothing about Wootton...

For examples search the MD school forum for Wootton... A lot of people misspell it, so search wooton and wotton too.

This does not indicate a toxic atmosphere at school. This sounds like an individual family issue. unless you are saying that a majority of the families at Wooten do this and all the kids at wootton are affected by this and the kids act out at school as a result.

Be fine both places . I prefer QO because it is a truely uniquely happy place with good school spirit.

LOL... Wootton is a fine school. Don't let a hater's posts scare you. Research how Wootton performs in comparison with other schools in MCPS.

I would take the opinions of the posters here with a grain of salt. You are not getting good representation of opinions here.

OP - look into UMD admission rate for each school along with other data points. you need to make sure you give your DC the best chance to get in to (at least) UMDCP.

No, of course not. But be an active parent. Care about who their friends are. What those friends' parents do, too. Do they actively parent? Or do they sit back and do nothing as long as grades are good? There is a ton of money here, and with the money comes easy drugs.

My neighbor left many weekends a month and the house was a party house. That teen got busted for selling drugs. Woke the whole damned neighborhood with a 5am police raid with like 10 cop cars. Soon after, the parents bought that kid a brand new car. In many families, there are no consequences and no incentive to try to do the right thing.

In my street of 25 houses or so, I know three teens who have been arrested. Two for dealing drugs and one for burglary. One girl and two boys. And one of those hit with a drug bust was also questioned about burglary about a year later. I don't know how that compares to other neighborhoods in the county.

And this kind of behavior is everywhere at Wootton. This incident was a tragedy. But the types of activities that led up to it happen every weekend here.

It is a school atmosphere. When you have many families feel the same way and kids are programmed to believe it and they act the same way towards students.

A student at wootton won't even share with friends if they are going to Frosburg or Salisbury because they will be laughed at and bullied.

Talk to families that go there and you will see.

Also talk to the school resource officer, you can call the non emergency line and talk to resource officers. He can give you an idea about the drug problem.. Xanax, pot, etc. You can also call the counselors in the school.

Here is a perfect example of wootton mentality.

If it is not CP you are a failure... Towson and UMBC are a shameful failure and Salisbury and Frostburg is not acceptable by any stretch of the imagination.

Its sad and pathetic.
