Phen Pro. Is it safe?

Have lost more than 30 lbs in 60 days but I have also taken the diet very seriously, tracked calories and added a lot of exercise. Doctor said 90 days, maybe 120 if things were going well. Have to go back once a month to get BP checked and get weighed. Will see what happens after the 120 days but life with an appetite suppressant is bliss. I am just not tempted at all by food and normally a big glass of water gets me over any twinge of hunger. A lot of times, I have to eat even though I am not hungry.

Wish I could stay on it forever.

This is kind of a fortuitous board for me to come across right now...I am laying in bed with the blinds drawn hiding out from my family experiencing a serious crash from a phentermine reaction so I would say go with caution.

My issues arent going to be everyone's issues--I started last week on a phen topomax combo and the weight loss has been great--10 lbs this week with no hunger at all. I've forced myself to eat about 800 calories a day (I was 201 lbs last sat and 191 now). It might be issues with the topomax, or issues with sleep (I fall asleep fine, but have been waking up at about 2am wide awake and unable to go back to sleep) but the cumulative effect has been tremendous mental confusion and terrible (really terrible) mood swings.

You lost 10 lobs in one week? How on earth can that be a good thing?

So, I don't suppose I'm making the argument that it is a good thing, though I will admit that it is a hugely satisfying thing after years of trying and failing at weight watchers alone post babies. That said, when you are this heavy, 10 lbs in the first week can come off pretty quick just from water and a shock to the system. I am guessing maybe 5 lbs of that was actually fat.

Still--my mental state has been a train wreck all night/day. Its a miracle its a saturday or I would have had to made an excuse to telework then get nothing done.

800 calories a day isnt exactly starvation rations but it probably isnt helping my fatigue

I am probably halfway to my goal - would like to lose another 30 or so.

Will say that my sleeping has been a little choppy but I am not tired. Sometimes I wake up at 3:30 or 4:00 on 6 hours of sleep and just get up - have had some super productive work time before 7:00 which is an added bonus. Really haven't had any times when that caught up with me but I certainly haven't needed 8 hours of sleep to function normally as I usually do.

So other than the bliss of no hunger and getting added hours to my day by sleeping less - everything is normal. Really starting to dread the crash when I have to get back to life as normal and really hoping that I have trained my stomach to get by on 1200 calories. Next appointment I am going to talk to the doctor abut my re-entry plan whether that means a lower dose for a month or switching to Qsymia which apparently you can stay on long term.

Does anyone know a doctor north of Anchors? If I did go to him, not too close, would I need to go back regularly?

I found out about phen-pro and Dr. Anchors on this board last July. I am 5'3" and was 211 lbs. I'm down over 30 pounds and probably have 30 to go. I lost the first 25 quickly and then basically plateaued (due to my lack of attention to diet) between Nov and Jan. I took Jan off because I had to have a root canal over the course of two appointments (you have to take a break before using laughing gas etc.)

This past month I've lost about 5+ so far. I'm satisfied with my progress. The side effects have worn off significantly for me - I have a little bit of dry mouth still and some jaw clenching.

I also experience the additional productivity and the less sleep needs. I'm a lot more focused in general. I also don't think about food nearly as much as I used to...so the phen and prozac combo works very well for me.

Dr. Anchors is a little wacky and unconventional. However, it's not a schtick - I like how authentic he is. I keep going back because I like the accountability.

At my last appointment he recommended that I read 'Why We Get Fat' by Gary Taubes. I did and the book is probably equally as instrumental to my recent loss as restarting phenpro.

Anyone in NVA rather than in MD that people see?

I saw dr anchors and he didn't give me much info on what to eat and what not to eat. Can someone give me the rundown on the diet? I take the pills but just don't eat and have lost weight but this can't be healthy. I just want to know what I should and shouldn't eat.

I feel like a failure after reading this thread. I had my first appt. with Dr. Anchors in January but have only lost 6 lbs since then and that was in the first 3 weeks. I haven't lost anything the past 4 weeks. I'm in the obese BMI range and have at least 40 lbs to lose. Ugh.

Did you read the materials he gave you?

Re-read his rules and commit to them. No snacking. Less sugar and processed carbs. I find it helpful to re- read his booklets whenever I'm stalling.

Would you mind sharing the name of your doctor? I like the idea of the regular BP monitoring.

BeLite Medical Center in Fairfax

This is OP. Thanks for all the information. I'm still intending to discuss this with my endocrinologist. Am concerned about my BP -- was high even before I was overweight (it's genetic).

I know it's not a magic bullet. I'm hoping after the next couple of weeks pass, I can get into a more normal exercise routine, which will probably help me stick to a diet. I'm just so tired all the time.
