2 hour delay fCPS

We can't get out of our neighborhood via vehicle. Two large trees down across the road. Glad they didn't hit houses. We are in Vienna.

Numerous road closures in GF, Vienna and Clifton.

Ugh. Got the text after I already dragged child out of bed, got ready and literally waiting at the door for the bus. They need to make these calls earlier.

^^and DH had to walk down the street to tell some waiting middle schoolers who take another bus that school was closed.

I assume they will reassess before 7 am (when Sacc opens)

Interim superintendent == nobody is there to say the buck stops here and make a da*n call. Be glad we haven't had to deal with snow this winter. Or we would be having situations like the same new two years ago where they sent kids to school on icy roads and had to issue an apology.

But yep. My MS kid was 10 minutes away from walking out the door. Would follow her and head to work, and the house would be empty. Fortunately she is 12 and could cope. But still. The winds were badat 10 last night. This isn't new info.

There is an FCPS bus that goes by our house every morning at 6 am and it drove by this morning too. Call made too late.

Perhaps someone needs to tell the people who make these calls that middle school kids bus runs start at 6:00 so delay calls need to come by 5:00.

Whether the delay should or should not be is not the issue. How FCPS did it is the issue.
,

They probably did not know the full extent until the buses were on the road and called in downed trees and the custodians were inthe schools and called in power outages. This was a surprise for everyone.

Based on what the weathermen are saying this morning, the gusts are going to be going all day. I would not be surprised if it turned into a full day cancellation. I think they played it safe.

This. And the 2 hour delay buys time to make more checks of roads and schools. There are 200 schools.

This has got to be the stupidest cancellation to date by FCPS. And yes, I said stupidest.

Hopefully they tell us if the power outages are at our schools since SACC is opening on time. We are about to leave.

Have you ever been hit by a 1-2inch branch coming off a tree 100 feet up? I have- worst bruise I have ever had and it lasted two months.

Branches can snap and fall when it's not windy, snowflake.

Not nearly as often.

Not even close. I think it was smart. How many of you would be complaining when the bus did not show up or your child school was without power when they got there?

They keep sending correction texts. Wtf. They can't even figure out how to word "2 hour delay".

Your memory is short.
I would not send my kid to school today if his day included any time in a trailer.

I have no issues with the cancellation except it was made so late. No one was thinking to check for school delays on a wind day (unlike a snow day where you would be checking ).
