Valid visas are being ignored. The EO is being applied to current visa holders.

Lawsuits have been or will be filed today. The EO went into immediate effect.

Legal concept is Standing. Random John Doe can't challenge the ban. It has to be challenged by someone who is actually being harmed. Now that people are being denied entry and detained, they have standing to challenge-- and they are. In fact, I read in the WAPo that a class action had been filed, with two vetted refugees who were on a plane when the ban came down and were denied entry and the lead plaintiffs. So it is starting through the legal system. And they chose well. Entry into JFK is NY, which is the Second Circuit, which leans liberal. If they overturn the ban and it goes to the Supreme Court where there are 8 members and there is a 4-4 split, lower Court ruling holds, but only for that Circuit. LAX is in the 9th Circuit, with is very liberal, and would be another great place to get a plaintiff. All that said, this will have to go through several layers of appeal, so it will take some time to get an answer.

TLDR: before you can sue in many cases, you gotta find someone who is directly impacted.

This is why I don't care anymore about whatever happens to this country and to all of us.
People knew how terrible Trump is but they still went ahead to vote for him!
Others even refused to get out to vote and now they are complaining the most!

I have been detained three times at Dulles with my European born husband when he had a visa and a green card. Each time the immigration agent claimed there was no record of either of us leaving the country so how could we be coming back in if we never left. Accused of faking our own identity. Twice I was accused of trying to smuggle in a different male other than my DH and allowing him the right to use my DH's passport (it was my DH). We are white. We don't have unusual names. This was during W's first term, one time even before 9/11.

It was terrible. Once we were separated and I was bullied to admit guilt and it was like a bad movie. That time I had to get my employer on the phone to fax verification that I worked there and under their HR files my tax info. The other two times I refused to be separated. The last time we were detained and put in that special room at Dulles we were the only nonMuslim people there. When his green card was approved the detainments stopped.

Being held is incredible frightening. You do not have many rights, even if you are a citizen. And even if you do have rights, hat doesn't mean they will be honored. It can even happen to a US citizen. We should all be incredibly concerned about how these people are being treated. Saying being held is no big deal, it is.

Congress banned the long-standing quota system that had been used to dole out visas to immigrants based on country of origin. That law might not be binding in this case.
