Teen got a speeding ticket

She doesn't care that she could have killed someone?

Nice. No car.

Take away the car, at least for a few eeeks. She needs to realize actions have consequences, especially if she's bratty enough to say what she did.

Would your daughter be swayed by facts?

an impact speed of 16 mph, 25% at 23 mph, 50% at 31 mph, 75% at 39 mph, and 90% at 46 mph. The
average risk of death for a pedestrian reaches 10% at an impact speed of 23 mph, 25% at 32 mph,

You should make her pay for the insurance. That'll teach her.

I think there are a million ways to deal with this depending on the kid, her attitude, and need to drive. There is no right or wrong answer.

I received one speeding ticket at the age of 19 and never got another one again in my life. (Side note: My dad told me to go to court and ask for PBJ and I did, so no points or insurance hit.)

Also, I hope her after school baby sitting gig doesn't involve driving because if those were my kids, I'd want to fire her rather than risk having her drive my kids around!

PP again - please tell her that when I was 10 a car, going at 35 miles an hour, hit me straight on. I was laid up for 2 weeks with a brain hemorrhage and various injuries. My head made a huge dent in the hood and the driver had the temerity to call my parents that evening and ask for reimbursement for repairs.

I would add any insurance increases to her cost and then hope it is a one time event for her

"Take the car away" say a whole bunch of people who speed every single day of their lives.

Me too, I thought 15 over was reckless.

Well, I don't have a car so no I don't speed every day of my life. But I still think this teen shouldn't have one either, at least for a while.

This is why I don't let my 17 year old drive.

So 18 is magic?

Pretty sure PP meant this is why they don't let their teen drive, who just so happen to be 17 years old. The power of deductive reasoning....

Agreed. When she's 18 and can pay all ownership costs on her own she can have a car.

Actually I don't. I got a couple of tickets as a teen/young driver. I'm not saying I don't speed, I'm sure I do. However if I speed I won't be shrugging my shoulders when I get a ticket. The vehicle and all associated costs are paid for out of my pocket.
