This was me. I say none during the week, but that's only for home. Both get plenty at school. 3rd grader works on the chrome book a lot during the day, 1st grader has at least 1 reading rotation on the computer, both get "go noodle" breaks, plus sometimes videos if there is bad weather and indoor recess. |
Same. Though I do have some limitations on content (e.g., certain shows and vidoegames I won't allow) and if it is a lazy weekend day and the TV has been on for a while I tell them to turn it off and do something else. Rarely get an argument. I have a 2nd grader and a 6th grader. |
I've actually found the opposite. I am a SAHM so when they were in morning preschool but not napping anymore, they probably watched 2 hours every afternoon. Now that they are in ES, they are lucky to get 30 minutes/schoolday. Some days its none. If the weather is bad and they have no scheduled activities, they might watch a movie after they finish their homework. I don't have a set rule about it. Weekends they probably watch/IPAD from 7:30am - 9:30amish while DH and I sleep in, drink coffee, chat, etc. Then everything is turned off and we carry on with the day. |

K and 4th grader.
We don't have a set schedule. Depending on what else is going on, they might watch a half hour Wild Kratts or something a couple times a week. Maybe 20-30 minutes of Minecraft or other game on weekends. Occasionally (once a month ish) a family movie on a weekend. 4th grader is also supposed to do 1/2 hour of dreambox per week, and both spend a little time on computers at school. |
Same for my two in K and 2nd grade. Typically none during the week, and then they wake up and binge on tablets an hour or two on weekend mornings, plus often a bit of TV on a weekend night. Usually probably ~5 hours/week total. As an aside: I've found though that whenever my kids are at a friend or neighbor's house house, pretty much all they do is play on tablets or video games (and not because my kids are the ones clamoring for it - it's just what all the neighborhood kids do all the time). I'm the mean mom in the neighborhood, who doesn't let the electronics come out when friends are over (Your friends are over! Play with them!!!). It's a total pet peeve of mine, and makes me think that the people replying to your inquiry aren't an unbiased sample. |
| Half hour before school because they wake up early. Varies on weekends, probably averages a few hours. |
|
10y and 11y here - No screen time Sunday 6pm-Friday at 5pm (ish.) No screen time during the week unless it is school related (and then done in a public space.)
No limitations on weekends, but are expected to help out around the house, participate in sports and other physical activities (going outside to play with friends), and other family activities. |
|
1 hour max on weekdays although they often don't get that much because of other commitments.
Don't really keep track on weekends. 5th grade DS spends a lot more of his weekend on it because he plays videogames with friends. DD is a reader so she might watch 1-2 hrs on the weekend. We also usually watch a movie together on Sat. night. |
| Maybe 30 to 45 minutes on a given weekday. It often involves PBS kids. |
|
0-30 minutes during the school week.
1-4 hours on weekend days I feel fine about that. |
| 2nd grader. No screen time during the school week at home (they use computers at school). 1-2 hours of TV Saturday mornings. |
|
4th grader gets unlimited screen time. He gets done what he needs to get done so he can use his iPad and laptop as much as he wants. Does not watch tv only uses his devices.
He is above grade level academically in all subjects and attends an immersion language school where he learns a language his parents don't know so he gets most of his exposure to the language outside of school on a screen. DS is a top rated tournament chess player for his age and most chess resources and practice are on a screen/computer. Thus we do not limit screen time. |

Kinder and Preschool. No devices. Computer only if we go to the library which is maybe 1-2 times a month.
For TV: Mostly- none on school days/nights. Maybe, very rarely, an educational program for a special treat. Friday Night- we usually do a family movie night. Anywhere from a 30 minute program to a 90 minute program. Saturday and Sunday- sort of unlimited. They have activities, play with toys, go outside, etc. I don't exactly set a limit and prefer to play it by ear. Sometimes this means they get a lot more than they probably should. Sometimes they don't get any. |
| First grader - no screen time/devices during the week, at most 1-2 hours each on Saturday and Sunday (PBS kids-type stuff). |
|
A show a night (usually one episode of Scooby Doo) or one show on Disney JR on a weekend morning at most. Half the time or more she doesn't ask and we don't offer. 6 years old. Once in a while we have family movie night and make popcorn and watch a movie. Probably less than once a quarter.
They have technology as a special at school which involves 45 minutes of something on an iPad once a week. |
