How tough is it to transfer to UVA from an LAC?

My dh got straight As at NoVa and applied to transfer to UVA--no dice. They went elsewhere. That said, if you do it, apply for transfer admission before the priority deadline.

So the "guaranteed transfer" isn't?

Just checked--it's still in place and it looks like it's even easier than ever (3.4 in NVCC classes) for Arts and Sciences admittance. Amazing deal.

There are only so many seats and you have to apply way before the deadline since they fill up. There is no automatic admission.

It's called guaranteed admission.

The HSC student who pines for UVA is a walking living stereotype. Show some actual guts and go to nova.

This. You confuse me, OP, with your praise of Sewanee but all too obvious yearning for UVA. NVCC has a path. Seize it and make it happen.

What they actually pine for is probably an image of UVA as it existed circa 1950.

It is called the Pathways Program- but you apply for it while in High School, I don't know if you can apply for it once you are at NOVA.

Two different things.

I'm a bit nervous about HSC though, because I'm afraid the students might not be serious about academics. How tough is it to transfer to UVA from an LAC like Hampden-Sydney? What do I need to do if I want to do this? My major will be Classics.

Or you could like Hampden-Sydney and not want to leave! Make the most of wherever you end up.

I'm not "yearning" for UVA. There are some glaring negatives with them. Many of the old conservative professors are retiring, and their president is a female Yankee. The best thing about UVA is the connections. Connections mean a lot in this terrible economy.

That is very possible. At least from the outside, HSC has everything I'm looking for. Preppy, conservative, a strong core curriculum, and a good Classics department. However, I've heard there's a serious issue with drinking at HSC, and that scares the heck out of me. I'm a very religious guy, and may abstained from alcohol entirely. I don't have an issue with some students drinking on weekends. What I would have an issue with is a huge number of students running around drunk on campus and in dorms.( especially during the week) I liked it when I visited though. Certainly seemed like a place where I'd be happy.

It depends on the agreement between NOVA and the individual school. For more info:

The agreements are all different.

Um, unless you go to a religious college, you aren't going to escape this. You will def have lots of drunk students at any of the above schools.

PaleoCon here
Lincoln represented Illinois, and Illinois was an important union state. I don't understand why the board of UVA picked a Yankee female President after the Southern gentleman who was an alum left. They should've picked someone like him to replace him.

You realize that admissions people and college administrators are on this board and might be able to identify you when you apply for admission to their school? Do you actually think they are going to admit you with all that you say on here? Or have you said all these things to their faces so it doesn't matter anyhow?
