Janney: Good, or the BEST?

They're like that middling sorority at school that wants to believe it's elite (like the private school moms) but fools nobody. They are really just wanna bes and pathetic cheerleaders for their little club that neither elites nor independents want to join.

Are you making your judgements about other things in life based on anonymous troll posts as well?

Come to jamboree and you'll see.

It's like a nice little bit of whet appetite

Janney moms are fun! Ever go to a Janney moms-kids play date? I know one Janney mom who keeps boxed wine on hand for play dates where she invites over the other moms -- she calls them "big girl juice boxes"!

Overall, Janney today is the best DC public elementary school, although Mann and Lafayette are decent. Key is good. Murch is ok, but just not quite at the same tier. Beyond that, schools are more mixed -- more like "DC" schools than Upper Northwest schools.

You're either a troll or totally blissfully unaware of the can of worms you are opening again...

Let's not start this again. Each of these schools has their advantages and disadvantages. It's impossible to say which is objectively "best", unless you're the type to go by PARCC scores, in which case Janney does not win.

Those are the chubby ones who can barely squeeze into their Tenleytown toy houses.

Boxed wine?

That's why Janney moms support Deal/Wilson so pathetcally and ardentlt whereas Key and Mann families go private. The difference in sophistication is a chasm.

I've never been to a Janney household where boxed wine was served. That said, where I'm from in Europe, you can get some pretty good wine in boxes (talking about the vacuum kind - not tetra paks). It's a smart way of packaging for those who don't always go through a whole bottle, and not considered unsophisticated (except possibly by snobs, which the PP seems to exemplify). It's actually a modern adaptation of an ancient way to store wine. Don't know about the options in the US though.

Troll. No key parents post on DCUM and/or deign to go to Janney

Oyster parent with friends at Janney and Key. Stick with your neighborhood school! Great for kids, both are on par and provide good educational environments.

Agree in principle, but Janney has the advantage of being a Deal feeder, while Key is not. That might be what motivates OP. Certainly not everybody IB for Key goes private.

Very possible though that OP is a troll. Some people can never get enough of the Janney bashing.

Which is "the best" based on last year's test scores?

True. Despite the fact that Hardy boosting seems to be an official DCPS initiative, it's still a pretty mediocre 'option' compared to Deal. This is a drag on the otherwise good DC schools that feed to Hardy.

Mann used to be considered the best, but then the crown apparently passed to Janney. They're both good schools, a slight bump above the rest. That's why real estate is so expensive in Spring Valley and has become so in AU Park.

Apparently when you control and compare apples to apples, Janney has the worst scores WOTP. From another thread:

I just did scroll through the race breakdown for many of those schools. You are right. Much different numbers, and splitting hairs -- at least for white students.

agreed - scores for the white kids scoring 4 or 5 on PARCC at these schools are fairly close - splitting hairs etc. However Hearst is on top for ELA and is No. 2 for Math behind Hyde. just sayin'

First % is for ELA and then Math

white kids at Hearst were at 85% and 89% respectively

white kids at Janney were at 71% and 80% respectively.

white kids at Mann were at 83% and 84% respectively

white kids at Murch were at 76% and 82% respectively

white kids at Lafayette were at 72% and 87% respectively

white kids at Key were at 81% and 84%

white kids at Eaton were at 77% and 80%

white kids at Hyde were at 80% and 91%

white kids at Ross - no data b/c too few white kids

white kids at Shepherd no data b/c too few white kids

white kids at Stoddert were at 76% and 84%
