P*nis + s*x + s*xualization are all now banned from DCUM?

But I want the same WRX driving experience -- fast, manual transmission, fun, AWD/4WD for the winter. Is there anything that fits the bill that sits higher off the ground?

First, as a car guy, I find this incredibly hot and I love your attitude. Manual transmissions are getting hard to find. Fast cars are the only way to shop, even if you have a family. Just because its not someone's else's criteria doesn't mean that you cannot actually enjoy driving your car.

So what exactly is your budget?

Do you need a hatchback/wagon or will a sedan work?

Sedans would be:

Current Audi S4 (only car with AWD)
2005-2010 BMW m5
2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
2008-2013 BMW M3 sedan
2013+ BMW M3 sedan

SUVs:

2010ish Porsche Cayenne GTS
<2006 BMW X5

If you can live without manual, but can live with a dual clutch (which is technically a manual transmission, but without the 3rd pedal), some of the cars above also come in that option.

As a car girl, I find this comment gross.

So it's gross that I have a type I am attracted to? I find that an attractive trait because it typical shows that they are down to earth, aren't high maintenance with driving a manual transmission, and that they enjoy the aspects of real driving.

Do you find it gross that some women are attracted to musicians, tattoos, or intelligence? I doubt you are a car girl like you claim. A c class Mercedes doesn't count.

I think it's gross that you can't just talk cars with a woman like she's an actual person. Not just your "type".

I really enjoy driving, have driven a stick since I was 15 (minus 5 years with a family car - sporty little SUV), and I'll smoke you next time we're at a light. I was also the first person on this thread to actually suggest a car that has manual transmission (S4 back on page 1). But I still think your comment was disrespectful.

If you actually read my message, I did speak to OP like an actual person and provided several options that could potentially meet her criteria. No where did I mention her looks in my comment. We can agree to disagree on the disrespectful. I've moved on from that initial comment and even provided additional fun vehicles after getting the OP's budget. It's easy to get to name calling from an innocent comment on an anonymous forum by calling me a man child though.

I'm glad you live your life "a quarter mile" at a time by smoking me at the light, but there are other aspects of driving that include apexes, threshold braking, weight transfer, rev-matching, corner exit speeds etc.

Your initial statement was tough to get past. If you'd like to provide advice in the future (on a "mommy" forum of all places) please drop the sexist crap.

And I didn't call you names. I just called your statement gross and disrespectful.

LOL. And mansplaining driving to me? What a joke.

The OP of that thread requested advice about cars. A poster supplied such advice and, in the process, include a phrase to which you obviously objected. The OP, however, replied to that post without demonstrating any objection and actually requesting more information. That is exactly the way we want DCUM to work.

On the other hand, a number of posts took issue with the phrase to which you objected and attached the poster for that phrase. The poster, in turn, responded and the thread was turning into a gender war. That is not how we want DCUM to work.

I don't know how many times it needs to be said, but don't hijack threads. If you had helpful advice for the OP, please provide it. If not, move on.

Sorry - I will call it out if I see it.

So keep deleting, but it just shows how ignorant you are to what women in male-dominated careers/interests/hobbies face every day.

Just let that OP ask a legit question about cars. Don't make it about sex/gender. It's disrespectful to women.

I understand that and don't need it womansplained. Even if I didn't understand it, you posted it a half-dozen times. If everyone who was offended by a single phrase in a single post on DCUM decided to hijack the thread, the forums wouldn't function. Sometimes people just want to read a thread without it being hijacked by someone whose feelings got tweaked.

Also, I can do more than simply delete posts. I advise you to let it go.

Yes, no other DCUM threads ever address tangential points or go off track. Either that or you must spend 24x7 deleting posts.

I won't post on there anymore but you just lost 100,000 points of respect, Jeff.

You realize that in your zealous defense of women, you were actually making the thread less useful for the OP, right? The OP was clearly not interested in your sideshow. She wanted car advice and she was willing to take it from the poster to whom you objected. You were distracting from her goal of getting advice.

While I do need to take time to sleep, eat, and do a few other things in my very limited and uninteresting life, I spend quite a bit of time each day deleting posts and trying to keep threads on track.

I'm sorry to detract from the OP's request, but it had to be said. Otherwise that guy is just going to walk around thinking that he's throwing around compliments, but he's really not. It was actually a service to him. So he can better himself.

Guess you have to do what you have to do to support your kids, but I'm disappointed.

Just delete that part of his post and we are all good.

Yes, trying to annoy you specifically. Good, it worked.

Innocuous?

Let's say you are taking your vintage car in to get serviced and the random guy, who may or may not have all of his teeth, behind the counter says to you "it's so HOT when women drive vintage cars". Innocuous?

Your 15 year old daughter, Larla, becomes interested in car racing. Her great uncle, Larlo, also likes car racing and over thanksgiving dinner says "it's so HOT when girls like cars". Innocuous?

You are watching the 4th quarter of a big football game and you are yelling out some suggestions the coach and the random guy next to you says "it's so HOT when girls like football". Innocuous?

You are giving a big presentation at work and nail the delivery. After, your coworker says "it's so HOT when girls can analyze and present findings". Innocuous?

This type of sexualization of hobbies/interests is demeaning and disrespectful to women. It's seeing them as a woman first and not as a capable person. Why shouldn't women enjoy driving stick? Why is that so special?

This wasn't the explicit board where people flirt with each other all of the time. It was a legit discussion about cars. That guy's sexual fantasies had no place.

OMG! I cannot believe how prejudiced you are toward people whose economic insecurity does not allow them to afford quality dental care. I am clutching my pearls so tightly that I couldn't concentrated enough to read the rest of your post and I will now do nothing other than repeatedly post about how demeaning your post is to teeth-deprived people. For the love of Shane MacGowan, this can not stand!
