Where to see scorpions?

Maybe it's just because I'm pre codfee, but what is NMNH?

I cannot help you, but understand your pain. I took my son to the zoo a few years ago. His favorite exhibit was rats ( they were inside one building and could crawl through these tubes).

They also have tarantulas

But they're dead, right? (Bonus for me, but not quite as cool for him).

There are alive.

Not only are they not dead, but they also do a tarantula feeding where they put the tarantula out on the floor, the kids gather around in a circle, and they show a tarantula eat a live cricket (i think it was a cricket, but I can't quite recall). It's pretty cool; I definitely don't like spiders but it was cool to watch.

They have a pretty good insect/spider / creepy-crawly area of the museum. Your DS will love it.

We've been to the natural history museum so many times but I had no idea. We mostly spend our time on the 1st floor and occasionally make it to gems and minerals. I will have to take him and thank you !

OP, be sure to check with NMNH before you go. The live animal demos are not done all the time and you want to be sure to go on a day when it's happening.
Also, I've seen demos several times; set your child's expectations so he understands that any live demo will probably not include a scorpion though he likely can see one behind glass; however, it's WAY fun to get to hold a hissing giant cockroach!
Man, now I want to go back....

Thanks for the tip. We did the butterfly room a few years ago and they still talk about it. It actually sounds like fun.
