Favorite names you don't hear every day

I like Marjorie for a girl.

I named my daughter Piper. It's in the 170's on the SS site. It was around 250 last year though so it might be more popular in a few years.

There are 2 on my block! And I know 2 more born within the past 6 months (who live elsewhere in the US). Sad because it's a family name but I've gotten tired of it (since we're around the 2 neighborhood kids all the time).

Agree that Eleanor is super popular. We know 4 under age 3.

And Asher! My MIL just sent me an email (we like to chat about baby names) asking about this name. We had the 4th (!!!!) family friend use this name last week (all 4 within the last year).

Names and how they become popular are so interesting!

Thanks all! Some good suggestions so far. I like Cecilia (though would people just translate to a nickname?), Celeste, Neil and Graham among some that have been mentioned. Audrey was our second pick after Claire for a girls name last time around and I still like that one as well. I do really like Ava/Eva too but I believe that is used a ton these days. Though, I have to also admit that another boys front runner for us is Ryan even though it's very popular. I just think it's a very nice boy name.

Whoops - in case it wasn't obvious - I'm the OP above.

BTW, my husband's name is Calvin and he has been called Calvin all his life with the exception of one job he had where people randomly, somehow started calling him "Cal". The point is that I wouldn't worry about Calvin becoming "Cal" if you really don't want it to.

OP, if you want a name that we don't hear everyday, do not pick Eva or Ava, those are very very common names these days...

We have a Claire! We love the name and I really haven't met many kids around here with the name, though I though I would. She's 8 months and we've run into two different 6 year old Claires (one in Ohio and one in NJ), plus a few moms around my age.

Other names to consider:
Caroline
Amy

Luke (more popular)
Peter
Hunter

Evan - can be a boys or girl's name.

Calvin was one of our final two names - really liked it but ended up using a family name instead. I love the nickname Cal and I haven't heard of any babies named Calvin lately (although I do know some Callans and some Colins).

I also really like Elena - don't know any young kids with that name but do know a couple older ones.

I like some of the other suggesions PPs have made but a lot of them are a bit more trendy than I think you are interested in. I think your ideas are good ones!
