Oh, please. She didn't flee. She parked her car with the full intention of going back to give the owner her insurance information. I would keep an eye out for the owner on subsequent drop-offs, but really, this is not a big deal.

She's on here asking for help because she wants to make things right. Don't be a jerk.

Why not write the note immediately?

OK annoying ass wipe. Learn to read or go back to summer camp for the rest of the month.

At least you didn't hit a Ferrari!

How big is the scratch?

I've had my car scratched, dinged in tight spots. I have probably done the same to other cars. I just see it as part of life living in an urban jungle. Unless the scratch is huge or deep, it wouldn't bother me that much if someone did it to me. But then, I don't see my car as a status symbol.

The camp is not in Great Falls. :p

12:30 - I don't think the scratch was too big, because I don't see anything new on my car. That said, the same spot got swiped by a mystery driver in a parallel parking spot, so what do I know? I've never gone after anyone who scratched my car.

Does leaving a note protect me legally?

OP here - I honestly thought the car would still be there because I would have been there if the situation were reversed. I was wrong. I feel sick.

how am i an ahole if I it doesn't bug me when someone does that to me? If it bugged me when done to me, but not if I did it to someone else, then yes, I would be an ahole. But, I don't see it in this case.

I did ask how big the scratch was. Why do people get upset over a little scratch on a car?

Look just report it to the director of the camp
Email it so it's documented.
Then you won't feel sick or guilty
If someone complained they will go to the building services folks or the camp directors
Just send an email now and let it be the end
If someone comes forward and has damage insurance will care for it
Explain in the email that you didn't have time for a note or whatever

Respecting property is one of the first things my children learned. In case you miss that lesson at home they teach it in the public schools starting from kindergarten through high school.

NO it is not normal to scratch or ding other people's vehicles and act like it's not big deal. Hopefully your children turn out better.

As someone who had her car sideswiped while I was on the highway, and who gave the plate # to the police and they did nothing, I can assure you the police aren't coming for you.

Lesson learned from the police: if you hit someone, drive away. You won't get in any trouble at all!

Did you even read what the PP wrote? Hopefully your kids learn to read better than you.

Was it done on purpose? If it was, then yes, it's not respecting people's property. But if it wasn't, then it was an accident and has nothing to do with respecting people's property.

You can try to be careful, but sometimes it happens. I don't make a big stink over it when it happens to me. I get dings and scratches on my car all the time when driving on the roads. It's a part of life when you drive in an urban area. If it's just a little scratch, then get over it. You are fighting a losing battle if you think your car won't get dinged once in a while.

Maybe you are one of those people who take two parking spots just so no one parks next to you and accidentally scratches your car. You are the true ahole.
