School residency cheaters investigated

Yes, and it's a good point; but the article doesn't prove anything. It sounds license plates and mentions anecdotal stories. Did they actually have "reporters" parked outside of people's houses in Maryland? It's no wonder Watson is so unhinged, if this is how she spends her time.

That "article" was so poorly written I can't believe I read the whole thing. Not that it wasn't obvious from the beginning, but the real source of ire was spelled out toward the end: black kids in a "white neighborhood".

Are we supposed to believe they actually followed people to their homes, stalking them over night?

I'm not OP but I don't see why parents who are approached by reporters can't honestly answer basic questions about their residency. And if people are making excuses (like the L-T principal and the poster on here who keeps defending residency cheaters) that explain away why they have MD license plates, why fault the investigators who followed these tax cheaters home?

Any of you who insist that our country should have open borders better not be the same people who are complaining about PG County residents illegally taking their kids to DC schools for a better education.

You're not a crusader. You are a self-aggrandizement small person harassing children. Really? You're shocked that many parents were upset that you stalked them? I'm shocked that you have the balls to even basically say that what you really want is for Ludlow Taylor to get white enough for your kids to go there.

God help your kids.

You just illustrated 09:18's point.

You defend theft by calling the messenger racist. Lovely morals.

I'm not defending theft at all. I don't condone residency cheating at all. But I do know several families with complicated custody arrangements and financially vulnerable children--and the thought of some Hill twit stalking them and further destabilizing their lives makes me angry.

You want to do something about cheating, take it back to the OSSE. Don't do anything to make life harder on kids.

No, the real source of ire is a phenomenal abuse of DC residents' tax dollars.

Are we supposed to believe that you don't actually see the problem with that?

"D.C. school graduates also get in-state tuition to any public college in the nation."

This quote isn't quite accurate: You have to be a DC resident in order to the the DC TA, not just graduate from a DC school. And DC TAG is most definitely NOT "in-state tuition" though I wish it was. DC TAG is $10K per year for up to five years towards the OUT OF STATE tuition rate which is typically $30K-50K. So, yes the DC TAG takes a little bit of the sting off, but it's nowhere near what in state residents pay.

She never said she didn't have a problem with that. Many of us have a problem with you stalking people to "prove" that. Let's just imagine for a second that someone did this to you and your kids. You're okay with a stranger following your children to your ex's house, parking overnight outside and then following them to school?

NP. I find this article pretty damning. 40% of cars at dropoff had MD plates??? That's bad. DCPS/DCPCS needs to crack down on this.

They are not taking their kids to DC schools for "a better education." They are taking their kids to DC schools for free services intended for DC residents.

(And no, we shouldn't have open borders but instead should have a well-functioning immigration system.)

+1. Stalking the families to write an "investigative" piece is appalling. This woman should be ashamed.

I'm a DC resident (with DC plates), but I'm going to side with the parents here. If a strange person pulled up to me while I had my kids with me and wanted to know where I lived, I'd be a bit angry too. I'm sure these "reporters" didn't have any press credentials as this a more of a blog, then USAToday or WaPo.

I'm all for taking this information and investigating (as I do not want MD residents in our schools) but I think the way it was handled is gross.

DCPS total enrollment last year was 48,439. The reporter contends cheating is around 40%. Suppose the actual number is 1/4 of that or 10% or 4,844 kids X $30K per kid =$145,320,000

ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-FIVE MILLION DOLLARS stolen from DC taxpayers.

40% at one school. Not total.
