| I heard 13. Also heard Haycock is losing 15 and Kent Gardens in the same boat. The raise this year seems to be too little too late. |
| Haycock is 18 last I counted off of the KITs including their AP, all of their special education teachers and none of the third grade center teachers are returning. ? Kind of glad we are in our last year there. |
There is one 3rd grade center teacher moving to Arlington, one that is staying at home. Ironically the new AP is from Chesterbrook. I know some teachers said they took their Arlington positions before the FCPS budget was passed and the raises were announced. While I think is great that FCPS will be able to pay their teachers in accordance with other N.VA school districts, it is sad that the announcement came so late. We've lost a lot of great teachers last year and this year to Arlington. |
There are two returning 3rd grade center teachers at Haycock. Another is leaving because of a baby and one is going to Arlington but not as a classroom teacher. |
n This year's turnover is very different. Most are going to Arlington rather than moving or switching win FCPS. Definitely a salary differential issue. I'm assuming Chesterbrook is experiencing the same phenomenon. |
| Rumors are it is a principal issue as well. |
"Heard it is like a private school..." What does this mean?! |
| How do you search job vacancies by school? |
| I'd imagine there are plenty of teachers, both new and experienced, who will take advantage of an opportunity to work in that pyramid. One of our favorite teachers was new to FCPS after working in another local school system and was very candid in telling parents how much easier it was to work in a school where kids came to school prepared and eager to learn. |

Teachers who are considering leaving for Arlington should also look into the retirement benefit and compare those with FCPS. Fairfax has a good retirement plan for teachers. I don’t know about Arlington.
Unfortunately, teachers too often do not consider long term benefits and jump at the higher salary without thinking down the road. And, OP - Chesterbrook is a WONDERFUL school with a wonderful administrative team. High expectation of students, fair treatment of students, and high quality instruction. ~Former central office employee who knows the schools |
| Op here. Thanks for weighing in. I have heard this is happening everywhere and there's no need to panic so I have officially stopped panicking. FWIW, my kids are happy there. |

I am interested to know which teachers are leaving Chesterbrook. We have two kids at the school, which we transferred to after private because it was a better option for our kids.
Any more insights are greatly appreciated! |
| As a current parent, I would say that the problem with Chesterbrook has a name. That name is Bob. |
| The Chesterbrook letter that went out to parents this week shows no teachers leaving for Arlington County Public Schools. |
