What is happening at Chesterbrook Elementary?

I can't think of any pyramids in APS that are better than Chesterbrook/Longfellow/McLean, so I'm not going to lose any sleep over this. Teachers are getting a raise and, if the meals tax is approved, the schools will get even more money. With the overcrowding in APS, many of my friends with younger kids have no idea where they'll end up at high school. We know our kids could only be zoned to McLean or Langley, or Marshall if they want IB. I wouldn't trade those options for anything in APS.

For APS it's actually fairly simple. Kids currently zoned to W-L, the largest school, will likely be rezoned to Yorktown and Wakefield. There are only three high schools, and W-L will be overcrowded if neighborhoods aren't rezoned.

Actually by 2017 all the APS high schools are projected to be overcrowded. W-L is worst, followed by Wakefield.

This year's turnover is very different. Most are going to Arlington rather than moving or switching win FCPS. Definitely a salary differential issue. I'm assuming Chesterbrook is experiencing the same phenomenon.

I agree. I know two teachers at Haycock who are switching because of the salary. A lot of young teachers also live in DC and N Arlington so the commute is better, too.

They will be back if they try a south Arlington school. Money isn't everything! Chesterbrook has the best kids (probably because of the wealth, school size and local AAP center).

Also have heard that a list has been released and many of the Chesterbrook teachers are going to other FCPS schools (not Arlington for higher salary) and that it's a principal issue. He's been loved at least by parents for many years but I've heard that he's checked out (he's been at this almost 2 decades I believe) or got stuck bw demanding parents and pushback from teachers.

No, it isn't necessarily a Principal issue. It is also a commute issue. Teachers move to school that are closer to where they live. Same things is happening at the other McLean ES nearby. Teachers cannot afford to live near.
