Saw something disturbing at Montgomery Mall yesterday.

No kidding. No wonder so many people get away with abusing kids in this area.

Interesting that you assume it was a grandmother. Most likely it was mom.

I feel like I'm riding the crazy train. She slapped a 2 year old across the face, people. And screamed at her.

What should OP have done? What would you do, if you saw this? Nothing, same as the rest of us. Or post about it on DCUM, wringing your hands.

I would have called security and told them what happened. That poor little girl needs someone to speak for her when she can't. Slapping a little girl, practically still a baby, across the face is wrong. You wouldn't slap an adult. But you can slap a child? Um, no.

PP. I'm not a do-nothing by nature. I've called police about noise, domestic abuse, animal abuse. If the rest of us would, maybe DC would be a little nicer.

Umm, yes, she can. You wouldn't, and I wouldn't, but parents can and do slap their children.

She slapped her. She didn't beat her. Not abuse. MYOB.

Okay and at home she might beat her. This is ridiculous.

Yelling, a yank of her arm, a slap on the hand, those would be overreacting/ slapping a 2.5 year old across the face is abuse. Doesn't matter what the kid did all day. A 2.5 year old is barely more than a baby with limited communication skills.

I don't know that I would have been able to stop myself from saying something directly to her and intervening to help that little girl. What does she do when she isn't in public?

I also doubt it was a grandma. I've never seen a grandma with a baby in a baby carrier. The mom could have some sort of postpartum issues going on. Not that it excuses it but hopefully she will get the help she needs.

Ummm you all are nuts. Screaming isn't illegal. We have all had bad days and screamed, I'm sure. Slapping a toddler in the face, though? What the actual fuck? That warrants a call to the police/CPS FOR SURE. Are you people all serial child abusers or something?

"Hope they get help" on the way to your pedicure is what makes this area bleak. Help! Help your fellow human.

Intervening to help? How, by taking her home with you?

And they can and do end up with CPS involved in their lives for a long time. Believe me, I work with CPS.
