Please gun supporters - explain to me once and for all why you need an automatic weapon

Why do you "need" a BMW or a Mercedes?

You don't. You want it. Other people want AR-15s. It's called freedom.

And yet I can't buy a missile launcher or machine gun for use in my own backyard. Limits DO exist. This should be the new limit.

Machine gun?
Assault rifle?
Killing machine?

Does it really matter what we call your ridiculous lethal toys?

Yep.

Why do you need anything automatic about it? WTF about "not a full auto".

Automatic weapons are illegal.

Technically that's true. But semi-automatics seem to be lethal enough in the hands of a maniac. So the Technicality is irrelevant.

In that case, shouldn't they also be able to buy tanks, rocket launchers, chemical and nuclear weapons?

I don't. They were banned in the '30s

An AR-15 is not automatic, is not a machine gun, and is not an "assault rifle." It works just like any hunting rifle but fires a smaller bullet than most. The tragedy in Orlando could have been accomplished with just about any gun, and banning the AR-15 because it looks scary won't change a thing.

Brilliant article by the way -

Same reason people want a pitbull. Need to feel powerful. It's all they got.

And if you need an AR-15, or a pitbull to feel safe, you probably need to move, like, now.

+1 and maybe to make up for a small head, both top and bottom, and a lack of self esteem?

+1. This is an attempt to get the low-infos on board to ban a gun that they know nothing about so the gun-grabbers can later make the argument that all semis are actually just like the banned AK and should be banned as well.

OK, so explain how a handgun could do as much damage as an assault rifle in the same amount of time?

Yes why do you need a gun that can shoot so many bullets in a short time period?

750 to 900 rounds per minute. Why on earth should this not be highly regulated at a minimum? Why was some random person allowed to buy one on a Wednesday, so he could shoot up a club on a Saturday?

I honestly do not understand the gun owners vitriol here on this thread and elsewhere. That this sort of weapon is allowed to be owned by just about anyone in this country is the absolute height of insanity.

seriously? Gawd that's just disgusting. Anti-gun law advocates always say that strict gun control laws would prevent law abiding citizens from buying guns. Well, this guy was a law abiding citizen, wasn't he. So, it was ok that he should've been able to buy an assault rifle, right? And even if Trump managed to prevent Muslims from entering this country this wouldn't stop the other mass murders committed by non-muslims who also were not criminals at the time they bought the assault rifles. Good god, you pro-assault rifle advocates are sick sick sick, and selfish selfish selfish. There is something deeply wrong with such people.

Jesus Christ. NOTICE ALL DCUM PEOPLE WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT GUNS. PLEASE READ A WIKI PAGE ABOUT HOW GUNS WORK.

This has been explained numerous times on several threads here. There is no difference between semi handguns and semi long guns. The AK looks like a machine gun, but it's actually not. Large capacity magazines can be bought for either. Some states restrict the number of rounds in a magazine. Regardless of this, empty magazines can be quickly swapped out with new, full ones, with a little practice. A 9mm Beretta handgun can accept a 33 round magazine and then re-loaded an unlimited amount of times. Also it would probably be more convenient for a shooter to have two semi handguns rather than a bulky AK. Easier to shoot someone a t short range with a handgun also. (This is why cops carry handguns and not AKs).
