Gay Pride Festival

Probably, however, whether my son is gay or straught, I want him not to be promiscuous. I don't want him being somewhere where promiscuity is celebrated.

The two other kids were not allowed to go (apparently studying and some logistical issue) so the problem went away. DH is taking DS on a bike ride instead.

Absolutely not. Why in the world would they even want to?

Because it's a great and fun time for a teenager? I'd let them go!

So no pop music?

No - there are a lot of predatory gays there

If metro is an issue, he could use Uber as a back-up.

Which is why the only instance of a teen being attacked at a gay pride parade I could find occurredwas non-sexual (a stabbing), occurred in Jerusalem, & was perpetuated by a religious fanatic, not a gay person.

But I once heard from next-door neighbors girlfriends hairdressers niece that something happened once somewhere next to where a gay pride festival was the month before!!! Surely there is a connection

Yes, it's fun, safe and there and many families with kids there.
The floats are colorful and interesting and they throw beads and candy.

I actually marched in the parade last year.

Best parade I've ever been to.

Signed suburban mom who isn't gay but who has gay friends & had a grand time.

+1

If I'm reading this correctly, he wants to attend the street festival with performances on Sunday, right? It will be totally fine as long as he is comfortable navigating in and out of the city (and if you are comfortable with that). There are a ton of families there, and the booths are mostly businesses, churches, volunteer organizations, etc. I will be there with my wife and our 3 year old, as will many other families.

We took our 4yo to the parade, we took her last year and the year before too. We are gay and its a lot of fun and she loves parades. If she wants to go with friends at 16 I would let her.

Yes. The festival on Sunday doesn't go that late. And they have good, free performers (Meghan Trainor for one.) It isn't like he will be getting home very late, and there's nothing untoward taking place there.

Then you shouldn't have a problem with your child attending the street festival which has 0 to do with promiscuity.

Because it's fun and maybe they like the musicians? DC usually brings in a semi big name musician to close it out. Where else will you see Meghan Trainor for free?
