Which is why the only instance of a teen being attacked at a gay pride parade I could find occurredwas non-sexual (a stabbing), occurred in Jerusalem, & was perpetuated by a religious fanatic, not a gay person.

But I once heard from next-door neighbors girlfriends hairdressers niece that something happened once somewhere next to where a gay pride festival was the month before!!! Surely there is a connection

I'm sure there is some conservative asshole who is just searching the forms for the word "gay" to post such nonsense.

You can't let him go. The gays are known for riots and violence, even if it was 49 years ago. I'm also fairly certain that they sacrifice children.

But seriously, there were tons of teens alone and families with small children at the parade today. If he can navigate a large crowd and the metro, he'll be fine.

It was today (Saturday).

Just FYI, the parade was fun and there are always a ton of kids there — there was even a moon bounce for little ones. Sure your kid will see a fair share of men in speedos and women in bras, but they see far worse on the internet and tv, believe me. It's a beautiful show of solidarity and a day of fun. Now, would I let them hang out at JR's after? Uh, no.

The festival is actually tomorrow. But now that we've been assimilated, most of the booths are for banks and realtors and welcoming churches and media companies. Not much scandal at the festival- more like a very targeted marketing flea market. The entertainers are on stages throughout. It's very tame especially in contrast to SF or NYC, though even they are sponsored by Budweiser or Citibank these days.

It's 91 outside. Sports bras and speedos are cooler.

It's also what I see sometimes when I go walking in my townhome neighborhood, so not out of the ordinary in the DC area. Where I am from, you would be sexually harassed non-stop by everyone.

They're walking for miles when it's a thousand fucking degrees out.

I know OP already made this decision, but I'd totally let a 16 year old go. Basically, if I would let my teen go to any other downtown event alone, I'd let them go to Pride.

Actually, no they don't. Because I don't let my kids who are of moon-bounce age watch that kind of TV or internet.

I think it's pretty obvious that the PP you are responding to was referring to the OP's 16-year old kid.

I am no prude, but I would not allow my 16 YO to go.
