My #1 issue with this is, what about your husband? Can he go off and follow his dreams while you get a "mommy job?" Are you going to be okay doing all the work around the house?

DH and I just have two regular jobs (pay 100k and get out at 5:30) and we stagger schedules for children. I wouldn't be okay doing 100% of childcare or chores. DH is 50% their parent too and needs to step up.

So are you already a mom? Did you already have a career at one time?

You will not get $150K as a starting salary in any field.
Except law, but from what I heard, being a new associate is pretty hard on "mommies".

I telework fulltime (from home), I am off by 4:30 every day and am a GS-14 (I only make about $105K a year right now- but top end of the scale is about $135K). It will be years before I get there though (I am a new 14). No weekends and great worklife balance. I worked in private sector for years - and took a big paycut to get my foot in the door with the feds. Well worth the sanity.

Probably not law or major management or medicine (unless you're an RN and do the 3 days of 12 hr shifts and then off) . You can do it in some IT places. I recommend picking something you're good at wnd work that can be done remotely without a lot of face time. Project based. and then putting some time into a company (once you see try are family friendly) and by the time you have kids you will have a reputation for your good work and can make your own schedule.

You apparently can make 500K doing PT work for Big Law.

I'm sure this can be done in law; why wouldn't it be possible in law??

I don't think it is a specific field. Some employers have flexible schedules, others offer 1 day a week to telecommute, others do not offer either.

Do you have a degree at all?

Working 8am-4:30pm each day with one telework day per week isn't unheard of for the government, but 150K is near the top of the GS-15 ladder, so it takes time to get there.

Alternatively, Capital One is supposed to be good about that.
