| Goal is 20 for K, unless IB kids register late. Important to keep pressure up on principal on this. If you have not reached out already, please do so prior to May 2. |
Thanks! What do you recommend? Emailing the principal directly? In addition, I would hope they would not take any OOB slots until after school starts in September, it seems foolish to accept OOB in May because kids may move over the summer, when most families move. |
In person. She will meet with you. |
| If central DCPS tells her to fill slots with OOB she will need to. Just know that. |
|
I just hope that if there are any IB families planning to send their kids for K if they did not for PK, that they are reaching out to the school now.
Please reach out now so the Hearst principal can plan for appropriate class sizes. |
She didn't need to this year. Both PK classes are <20. |
There may be more IB students entering outside of the lottery to push the classes above 20 for K next year. |
That is different from Central requiring her to take OOB students |
+1. DCPS will continue to pump OOB kids into the Deal/Wilson pipeline until Ward 3 parents learn how to better play the game. |
?? What game is there to play? You enroll your kid. What else is a parent to do? |
This is what happened this year. 8 IB kids moved for K over the summer. Principal has said no OOB for K until Sept. |
OP here. Thanks for the feedback. Although I never said we were coming from an under enrolled school and am not sure why that's an assumption that an IB parent would make. Our current HRCS has a waitlist similar to Hearst; we just thought it might be beneficial for our kids to start making friends that they will eventually see at Deal. But it sounds like maybe we might not have been welcomed with open arms by everyone. So maybe it's a little bit of a relief - at the very least, it's one less thing to worry about over the summer. |
| Apparently Hearst is changing quickly. You would not have seen these sorts of comments re OOB students 2-3 years ago. |
| OP, of course you would be welcomed with open arms, that poster may not even be from Hearst. I think that no one wants their child in crowded classrooms. And the other thing to keep in mind is that OOB with sibling are still on the wait list. I would not read so much into an anonymous forum. If you are interested, come visit the school or reach out to the PTA. |
OK. But 3 years ago there was a hard cap of 20 for both K classes. So there is that. |
