So can any 3rd grade teachers or administrators out there weigh in on whether or not they are still currently assessing students for fall entrance to CM, or is this sensitive information?

We are still assessing. The county is moving away from the assessment tasks being a key indicator of success. Instead, each school is able to look at other indicators of success such as map-m, challenges in group, etc...

I think that's a good move. That assessment was bullshit.

Your kid didn't pass? Just wait. Doubt end results will be good here.

I agree. Compacted math is too hard for most children which is why it was reserved for only the top students. By opening it up to more children mcps will be right back to where is started- too many children accelerated who actually are not that strong in math. Those children will struggle in the higher level classes.

Actually my kid is in compacted, thanks anyway. Just wait for what?

Letting schools decide will ruin the class. Some schools will put too many in and some too few. And the changes will solve nothing. There will still be a gap in performance for minority groups.

Just wait for MCPS to go from bad to worse, probably. The common belief on DCUM is that

1. everything MCPS does is bad
2. but every change MCPS makes is worse

Math is really the case in point. When lots of kids were accelerated, that was bad. When fewer kids were accelerated, that was bad. When almost no kids were accelerated, that was bad. When some kids were accelerated, that was bad. When more kids will be accelerated, that will be bad. (Etc.)

+1 I hope they don't dumb it down. Same for entrance to magnets.

What about an enriched class in lieu of an emphasis on fast pace?

My child is in compacted. She found the regular track too easy and this is challenging for her. It might be too challenging to be on this path in the long run.

Why is it that we don't believe our educators?
